There's been tests and comparisons galore on here and elsewhere. The LS9 Donaldson filter is the best for flow and filtration. The only real improvement you're gonna get is cutting the shroud to let more fresh air in (vararam etc). I've lived and died by K&N for many years. But the numbers don't lie. Also, I've heard the K&Ns don't really fit LS3 vette intakes well (or filter well)..
Take and/or rely on test results from this forum ???......surely you jest !!!!....
Rocketdawg, It only took about 20 minutes to change the filter and that included cleaning the air box and cleaning the area in front of the radiator support. You have to unplug the MAF sensor wiring harness, loosen the screw clamp on the intake bellow and slide it back off the air box, pop the air box off of the mounting pins (three), and remove it from the car, remove the filter from the air box (Torx screws), replace the filter and reinstall the air box. If the rubber grommets stay on the pins, remove them and put them in their holes on the air box before installation. The filter I used is GM Part # 25940997 which is the recommended filter for the ZR1 and Z06 and is what the assembly plant installs in the GS's. It retails for $182.00 and while I spent $120.00 for it I still believe it was a good investment. The 15776148 which is recommended for base models (I know it's the same engine.) retails for $120.00 and can be purchased for around $90.00.
On 12/07/16 had Chevy dealer replace factory air filter with GM Part # 25940997, list price is $182.89. Out the door price included labor and tax along with the filter, for $113.96. I guess I did more than ok.
Yep, got this for $68 and was identical to OEM one I replaced in my base 2008 LS3. Ten minute job that anyone can handle and was a two day delivery to doorstep from Amazon.
