Default Core-Hurst shifter

My weekend project, got it on ebay in about a week. Directions look pretty straight forward. Any tips always appreciated, I have previewed some of the threads and we are so lucky to have so much detailed information on this site. Not like the old days.

Don't forget to plug all the connectors back in when buttoning it back up...

All in all pretty easy install for most people, me on the other hand....could not get the stock shifter **** off. I tried everything, heated it, put it in the vice, finally took it to my mechanic and he popped right off. After I fished the bolt I dropped that rolled under the transmission with a magnet, things went better. Absolutely love the way it looks and shifts, so much so I put a Hurst Equipped emblem on the car to show my love.

Is there a noticeable reduction in throw? Any rattling from the shifter? Im looking to get one with the stock type stick and use the stock ****. The price seems awesome on these as long as the quality is there.

From my experience if you can find a "Hurst-style" ball (it can be blank with a shift pattern on top, or say "Hurst" on the sides) that fits on your stock shifter, it will drop the height of the shift **** about 1.5" which will shorten the throw, and there will be no extra shift effort.

Everyone has preferences, especially on this site. I ordered and sent back the "Hurst style ****" its much larger and looked odd to me. The Core-Hurst has a MUCH shorter throw and is more precise. It's a Hurst **** which is sized just the way I like it and the chrome stick looks more like a shifter to me. The stock shifter lacked the precision I prefer. It just feels better, not as loose and requires much less effort and looks much better than stock.

Rock solid, unlike the stock, and did I say it looks AWESOME. Plus the added bonus of easy **** changes, how about a t-handle, or pistol grip or a skull with red eyes.

Can you describe the differences between the two? I'm on the fence and may be interested.

The core looks very cool old school.
The MGW feels like... as others described, a rifle bolt.

The problem with my car is I had with the stock shifter, an acceleration rattle.
The core made it much better. The MGW better yet.

I'm losing a bunch,but it's just gathering dust.

really like the CORE shifter. Here's a little secret: mount it on an MGW box and it works even better.

What I was getting at is that you can buy a core-shifter, that isn't the chrome stick. They sell the shifter with a "Stock" looking stick that the oem, and hurt **** will attach too. From what Im reading everyone really likes the core shifter. There isn't a lot of information out there, at least not like the mgw. I like the fact that it sounds like there is minimal effort to shift gears, while reducing the throw a decent amount. It sounds like ill be purchasing one this spring.

I just installed the "Core short shifter for stock **** - 2005-2013 Corvette C6 6 speed
$ 11900
"
I bought the car a few months ago and couldn't believe how bad the stock shifter felt. The core shifter works great, nice crisp shifts, easy to find gears. The car needs a few other things so I didn't want to spend a lot on a shifter and this one has exceeded my expectations. It also accepts both the C5 and C6 style ***** so you can use either. Once I had it apart I noticed the shifter box bushings are worn out so I ordered some new ones. Even without the new bushings this was a huge improvement. I had also installed the anti-venom mod prior to swapping the shifter and that helped the stock one but it made it very sloppy. I left the anti-venom mod with one washer installed and the pressure feels about right for me with the new shifter.

Ive been looking at the core-Hurst shifter with pistol grip on eBay. $239 so think ill give it a shot. I was also thinking about removing the GM badges from the lower rear fenders and replacing with the Hurst equipped badges. has anyone done this? bad idea? about how long do you think it will take me to replace the shifter? is my stock shifter and **** worth selling or should I just hang on to it? thanks!
