Default New Battery From Amazon?

I have some Amazon credits I want to use, and my 2007 C6 finally needs a battery. Has anybody bought a battery on Amazon?

Don't think they sell car batteries on Amazon. Do they?

I like Amazon and think they do a good job. My only concern would be that I couldn't see the freshness date on the battery before I buy it and if it were older than I wanted, it's a hassle to send it back. Walmart actually does a good job with this as they have a simple sticker on the top of the battery that is easy to read, in addition to the embossed code stamped into the battery case. There are lots of options for buying a battery in person so it's not hard to check the date...maybe save Amazon for other things.

Also, the chances of getting a battery that is older than is optimum are greater with a C6 battery because it is not a common size like a group 78 for example. These batteries are more likely to sit around a bit waiting for a needy C6 to come along.

They sell Optima yellow and reds. Hate to have to mail one back for warranty. Doubt they sell lead-acids. Hazardous shipping.

I bought an AGM battery for my 4-wheeler on fleabay and had no problems with it. Saved about $25 over the price I could buy the same battery for locally.

I bought a Red top from Amazon years ago. When it was delivered, the UPS lady came to the door and asked if I could come get it because it was too heavy for her to lift.

I think it is only like 40lbs...but she was a small lady so I can understand.

The last I herd was if a UPS Driver could not lift a certain amount of weight they could not have the job! I think she was playing with you.
If I remember right it was 40 lbs.

How I would have reacted to this would be 100% depending on what she looked like.

I worked at UPS for 27 years , if you couldn't get 50 lbs off the truck, you didn't work as a driver... Anything over 50 lbs and you could get a supervisor to meet you at that stop and he would help you, but most of the time you just handled it yourself... Unless she was Christmas help , she shouldn't have been on delivery....WW

It seems to me that under the original OSHA law (1970?) nobody had to lift more than 40 pounds while working. Or it was another Federal law after OSHA. Not sure about this.

But as a moldmaker, we jockeyed hunks of steel around every day that were 100 pounds, give or take; anything that small usually didn't have eyebolt holes in it.

We laughed at the law because we wouldn't be able to do our jobs if we obeyed it.

I just did a search ,and it seems OSHA doesn't put a limit on what can be lifted by shipping company employees anymore.. At the UPS "Brown cafe" site, it now says UPS drivers should only call for help if the package is over 70 lbs. UPS will handle packages up to 150 lbs (with 2 people). Maybe I retired from UPS at a good time......WW

Why would anybody screw around buying a battery that wasn't local and had to be shipped?

Even here in the boonies, there is a family-owned auto parts store five miles away that has batteries in stock for everything from my 1951 tractor to my C6 -- I can run down, get what I need and be done in short order instead of waiting days.

Or there is an AutoZone and Advance Auto twenty miles away if needed.

Don't tell me it's about money.

Money: What is the shipping charge on a battery? Has to be quite a bit -- even if you don't pay it directly, you're still paying for it.

I realize all situations are not like this, however:

The battery died on my Vette on a Sunday morning in 2014 in my front yard (luckily). An hour later it was up and running with a new battery. Who would say, "Screw this expensive sports car, Imma save ten bucks by ordering a battery online. Let the car sit. I'd rather save ten bucks than go cruising this afternoon."

It's a really good, honest policy Bill...no need to find and decode some cryptic group of letters and numbers, the sticker just says 09/16 or 11/16 and each month is a different color so it's all very easy. When I bought mine, there were batteries made in two different months and it was easy to choose a newer one. Also, of course, Walmart is likely one of the biggest sellers of batteries, so it's more likely that they won't sit around very long...

Can't tell you. Sold the car back in 2013. Worked great for the years I had the red top though.
