Thanks GM for for wrecking a 50 year Corvette tradition...
I am very suprised at how many Corvette styling cues are in the XLR. For over 50 years the Corvette was an exclusive platform that made it something special. I was totally shocked to see the Cadillac dash screaming Corvette and the trademark C5 / C6 center loading exaust grafted on the Cadillac. Whats next GM, a cheaper version with a Pontiac Firebird name plate?? Its a sad shame that the Corvette is now going to be another GM bastard Like Tahoe / Escalade. I can see using a frame but when the dash starts looking the same and other features start cropping up on both cars it then becomes just another bastard. I can see the Nissan ads now, like Lincoln rightfully showed in the past. The valet drives up in a car and the couples start fighting over what car is theirs, Thats not my Cadillac thats your Corvette. Nooo thats not your Corvette thats our Cadillac!! Im sure you remember that one now dont you GM. Sigh :mad

You dont need to see the C6 to see the Corvette in the Cadillac. Unless your blind of course.

I don't see bulging fenders.
I don't see quad taillamps.
I don't see a Corvette face.
I don't see gills.
I don't see a Corvette dash. (Looks like a Cadillac to me.)
Indeed, I don't see a SINGLE Corvette trademark styling cue in the XLR.
LOTS of cars have centered exhaust. It's called a fad. C5 wasn't the first. Personally I much prefer the classic tucked-muffler corner-exhaust seen on C3 and C4, though I realize this calls for more rear overhang than C6 is likely to get.
Sorry, WhiteIce, you gotta do better than that.

None of us have.
White Ice has some valid points. Face it, "It's not your father's Corvette, anymore."

Re: Thanks GM for for wrecking a 50 year Corvette tradition... (FASGLAS)
I guess its this mentality is what GM is banking on. I have owned MANY C5s and the Cadillac sure looks to have many shared design features. Just because the Escalade has different seats grill and wheels and body cladding does not make it a Cadillac. Its still 80% Chevy/GMC. I dont have to see the C6 at all, there are so many C5 traits already showing through the XLRs skirt the way it is. I dont mind sharing a frame internal wiring that sort of thing, but when the dash starts looking like a Corvette and the XLR gets Corvettes once exclusive cener tail pipes it turns into another GM clone car. Im just guessing a lot of the people above work for GM or really need glasses.

HELLO?? What other GM car can you name with center loaded oval chrome exaust ports??? List them please... Its these exclusive styling traits that makes a Corvette a Corvette. No more people, its just not going to be "exclusive" "different" from any other GM product any more. After 50 years its a real shame that Corvette will now be just another GM shared platform.

Let me know when you're done with that razor blade, I've got a few hairs of my own to split.
Boxter has center exhaust. Viper GTS has center exhaust. Gee, they both have long wheelbases and short overhangs too. Damn, GM is really ripping them off.
A single shared trait does not a twin make.
As for "center loaded oval chrome exaust ports" that's hardly what makes a Corvette a Corvette. Need I point out that before 2001 they weren't chrome?
If Corvette didn't look any different from XLR, GM could hardly expect to get a $30,000 premium for the latter. What you're saying just doesn't make any marketing sense.
I'm really happy for you that you saw the C6 butt on the factory floor, but it hardly makes you an expert on Corvette styling, heritage, and marketing.

And, indeed, before the '97 model year the Corvette went for over 30 years without the tail pipes in the center.
Oh no! The Corvette has four wheels just like the Malibu. It's unbelivable! Crikey!
The C4 has dual exhaust on the far ends of the rear just like the Trans Am and Z28. I wouldn't exactly call them the same.

Didn't read the post, did you? We do know what the XLR looks like, just go to Cadillac's web site.
