A search was a bit ambiguous, but I'm basically looking to change my exhaust note only, not looking for performance gains per say. What is different between axleback and catback systems? Also can I change the exhaust (to like a Corsa sport) without needing to do anything else, like a tune or upgraded air intake? Thanks for any guidance.
It would be helpful to know the year and model (base? ZO6?) of your Corvette, but I will give you my interpretation of the terms you are asking about.
Axleback - this would be just the over-axle pipes, muffler "cans" and tips. Going with this system you would retain the stock center section.
Catback - Using this arrangement, you would order a new center section, such as an x-pipe and the axleback portion. In other words replacing everything from the catalytic converters back.
Axleback would be the least expensive way to change the exhaust note. No additional tuning or intake is necessary.

Reason: spelling
Yes, you can install basically any axle back without a tune & can use your stock X pipe to connect to the axle back, I recommend the Corsa sports, sound good, no drone

First, an exhaust change itself will not require any tune, although a good tune from a reputable Corvette shop will always enhance your enjoyment of your ride. As for whether just axleback or catback, a muffler replacement (axleback) will generally give you a more pleasing exhaust note, but the choice of manufacturer & type is up to your personal preference. Best to actually listen to various types to make a choice. A catback system, which generally adds hi-flow cats & an X-pipe, will usually yield a sharper & higher volume exhaust note. Again, it's all up to your personal preference. Many will jump in & tell you to use this or that brand, but again, it's really a matter of personal preference. I'm running Corsa Sports, but with AR headers & their hi-flow cats & X-pipe.....lovin' the sound from this setup!
So an axleback system with hi flow cats would be best served with a tune at least but not completely necessary?
I simply wanted a better exhaust note and went with an axle back Borla S-Type II. Sounds awesome, zero drone, and Maryland speed definitely had the best price. Good luck with your decision!
