My trial period for OnStar is about up. Due to the weatherhere in Cleveland,I haven't driven my C6 muchand not used On Star at all. My question is "Have you gotten your money's worth or art least feel like it is worth the expense ($20 to $40 per month)?"
Not worth a flip... When I got my car the salesman told me that you could use the app to remote start the car, you can't. The only other thing I have seen with it is that I get a monthly email telling me what my tire pressure is, I have an air pressure gauge for that.
Very, very, few people will ever actually "need" this feature. I personally would never pay for this electronic crap but I don't use Bluetooth, MP3s, voice commands, etc. I'm sure all that fluff is nice and cushy for the travelling salesman who spends half his life in a damn car but I don't have any use for any of it.
I don't use it. But, if I traveled a lot, I would probably use it to have the Onstar service automatically download directions to my GPS. Of course you could do it yourself, but this would be a convenient way to get it done while driving.
I recently received an email from my dealership indicating that I now have 3 years of service free. I have yet to push the blue button to activate such service however.

Yeah, "free".
Got hooked with that line of crap too. Unfortunately I pushed the blue button and got a dissertation from some valley girl sounding woman who I could barely understand. She wanted to totally control the conversation and interrupted every thing I attempted to say. I hung up when she requested credit #'s. Yeah, that was free, sure it is.
We travel a lot and have had it (active) in our Camaro & Traverse (2006 Corvettes are not equipped with it) for a couple of years. I cancelled all paid services a few months ago when I realized two things:
1) I was paying $50 a month and the only thing I used it for was to download directions on an average once every other month.
2) Didn't have it in the Corvette which we take on at least half our cross country/long trips.
I now use my Garmin with life time free map updates in the Camaro or Traverse when we need directions. Also, when I cancelled they gave me the 3 year free service which allows me to still use my phone to remote start and lock/unlock my vehicles, as well as receive the monthly vehicle status reports...that is all the free service provides, you do not get GPS or any emergency services.
I know some people feel it's a good thing and worth the monthly fee for the security of knowing it's there in case of an emergency and you're unable to use your cell phone ... that's a decision only you can make.
I had it for 5 years. It came in handy a few times, when I locked the FOB in the car, and was locked out
I now have a key in my wallet to get in the hatch if ever needed.
I seldom ever used it for the cell service, and never had it activated for the GPS portion. The crash detection is a great safety feature, but not sure how many people got saved by that.
I needed to get it upgraded to the 4G LTE, which I didn't want to so I didn't renew at that time.
