Help with lifters

First off, you need to find out which side the noise is coming from. Use a stethoscope or short piece of hose next to valve cover. Once you figure out which side, then you have to pull the valve cover. It could be one of several things, bent pushrod, broken rocker arm or lifter. If you are lucky it might just need adjustment. First put a can of Rislone engine treatment in. That tapping happend to me, started it one day and tap tap tap, it was just a sticking lifter and went away after 15 seconds after the can went in. It's a ten dollar fix somtimes. Good luck
Does the tapping go away as the engine warms up?

pull the valve covers and look for bent pushrods or broken rocker arms or valve springs first... next check your oil pan and oil filter for metal... if you still suspect a broken lifter, DO NOT RUN ENGINE anymore... I've broke 2 lifters now and had to rebuild engine both times including new camshafts which gets expensive quick... you have to pull heads to get to the lifters.
