Default Another Key Question

I lost my only fob after recently purchasing a 2011 GS, didn't have time to get extras... The fob part slipped off the key so I still have the trunk key. I bought an older fob to avoid this issue (10372541) and did the "long method" of reprogramming. I replaced the battery, made sure the fob was about 20 feet away while turning the key 5 times and repeating the 3x10 minute waiting periods. I placed the fob in the glove box when it asked for #1 (buttons to the right), and after 4 seconds it asked for #2. I pressed down and ended the programming sequence. Because my other replacement fobs have not arrived yet, I only programmed the one. Now when I press the buttons on the fob, it will lock and unlock the car and pop the trunk. If i walk up to the locked car with fob in hand, it will try and find the fob (red light on lock button on the door will flash) but not register the fob and stay locked. Once inside the car, the car will not start. DIM says "no fob detected"

Any ideas? I thought all year fobs work with all year cars... I do have a "new" model coming as well.

I'm not understanding what you mean when you say the fob (not key) will unlock the car but its not picked up when you open the door. Will the car start with the fob in the glove box slot?

Sorry, when i press the buttons on the fob, it will lock and unlock the car and pop the trunk. If i walk up to the locked car with fob in hand, it will try and find (red light on lock button on the door will flash) but not register the fob and stay locked. Once inside the car, the car will not start. and DIM says "no fob detected"

You say "I lost my only key", but then you say "The fob part slipped off the key so i still have the trunk key" which sounds like you lost the fob.
Later, you mention "Because my other replacement keys have not arrived yet, I only programmed one." Huh? You don't program the key. Please explain and hopefully someone can help.

I'm confused...very confused. You said..."I replaced the battery, made sure the key was about 20 feet away while turning the key 5 times", and "when I try and open the door, the key is not picked up". And the key will not be read when I try and start the car".

The "key" has nothing to do with the car starting, or unlocking the door. All that is done with the fob, not the key. The key is simply there as a way to enter the car IF the fob battery dies. There is a "key" slot above the rear license plate to open the rear hatch.

Have you tried to start the car with the fob in the glove box slot?

And you put the fob in the slot in the same position as when you programmed it?
