Don't the HUD control switches backlight?
I don't drive much at night and took mine out for a cruise (1st nice day in a long while). The swithces on the left side do not light up. Anyone...??

Every light doesn't work? Usually the bulbs go out one at a time, thinking the plug connector is a issue perhaps.
Got the bezel off and the connector is tighter than all get out. I'll need to gather some more strength to go further. Another day. At least I'm 20% through the task. I'll order the (10) 7219 bulbs from Amazon and have them handy regardless.
I was able to buy an entire new HUD switch assembly, very affordable, from Cultrag Performance. I removed the old switch and installed the new switch. Turned on my lights and still nothing. The HUD works fine, but the backlight on the switches does not. The failure must be in the harness or connector. Is there a section of harness that is common to cars with HUD that is easily accessible, or is it part of the entire dash harness..? I also noticed one pin on the removed switch is missing, if all 8 pins are supposed to be intact on the switch connector. Any electrical guys on here with ideas...??
Have you checked the lighting circuit on this schematic?
Can you elaborate more? I'm not real smart electrically. The schematic above shows the Switch and the HUDisplay on the same circuit, same fuse no? If the HUD works and the switch illumination doesn't, I'd think its in the harness and not the fuse (fuse above shows to be common to both switch and HUDisplay. I'm open to all suggestions at this point.

HUD is separate

What is shown is the illumination of the switches. Are the HUD adjustment switches lit? What about the MODE switch?
If they are all out I would check either the Jumper from the C 109 connector or the Ground wire. Loss of either one would knock out the illumination of those bulbs. The last item would be the fuse, but, it looks like the HUD and Cluster are powered off the same fuse.
Yes, all switches are out. The HUD works just fine. Only the bank of switches are not illuminating. Mode and all. Might not be worth digging too deep into this with my limited electrical skills. If there was an easily accessible ground point to check, that would be easy enough. The schematch really doesn't define where that ground is from what I can tell. Again, I'm limired electrically.

New switch removed
If you were able to install the new switch you had to have access to the connector. You can measure the ground terminal to chassis ground with an ohm meter. Also, you measure the voltage at pins 5 and/or E with the lights on. You can use a cheap digital meter from harbor freight.

The schematic shows the Instrument Panel Cluster ground point for the illumination circuits shown in the schematic. The Ground point (G201) is at the base of the Left A pillar. The ground G 201 is used by many of the interior circuits, door switches, etc, so chances are that is OK. If you can check the connector pins as described above, you can see if the connections are OK, including the ground.
