Default Intermittent startup

I have intermittent issue starting my 2008. I hit the start button and I hear a loud click (like the starter trying to engage) then the whole electrical system goes off. After about 30 seconds it all comes back online.

Brand new battery and cables and I checked and it is in good shape.

Othertimes, it fires right up with no issues. I just don't want to get stuck somewhere where it won't start. Any ideas? Could it be the start button switch going?

You say the battery is good, did you have it load tested? Doesn't matter if its brand new or not. Could be a bad ground somewhere, or the starter button could be going bad. Good luck.

You said, brand new battery AND CABLES...my guess is you have a loose cable somewhere.

You should test the battery. Then check the cables at the starter. Both known problem areas.

Cable at the starter, yes I need to check that point. Thanks for the message.

These cars have a history of bad/broken bakelite that's used at the stater connection on the soleniod. This one is obviously real bad and missing the cable altogether, but they can crack and loosen the cable connection causing intermittent starting issues.

Bad connection at the battery or starter, could be either the positive or negative cables.

As followup, starter connection was bad. Just like the picture that extrapilot posted. Replaced the starter and problems gone.
