Has anyone made their own CAI? I feel that $300.+ is ludicrous to pay. I bought a vararam 8 years ago for my C5 and it was less than $200.

Yes, they have. I would search for DIY clean air intake, you should find threads about it.

It is easier to do for the GS/Z06 than the base vettes, I do know that.

You will also find threads on how to easily raise the rear of the hood (drag racers do it) and that is very cheap to do

Here's the $2 alternative that 2/3rds as effective as the best CAI and twice as good as the fake CAI's.

Gap bottom of radiator shroud with longer bolts.

Fabricate a scoop to fit down there. I used the bottom of a black office trash can. It is durable and the bottom curves up which is what you want in a scoop.

Fabricate a windshield shade to go over air filters to block engine heat.
Wrap a leftover piece of the shade around the air intake at MAF to keep incoming air cooler.

Don't laugh...my tuner said it is just as good as a pricey one.

These ideas sound great but needs some visuals.
