Service charging system
Steps I took
1. Replaced the drive belt- no change
2. Alternator shop said he had seen many where a worn solenoid from loosened/corroded connection at the starter was the culprit and thought that was likely. So, removed the starter took it to said shop replaced solenoid. Installed it back on the car. Symptoms persisted.
3. Removed alternator. Spun the pulley and found a metal on metal ticking while spinning. Took alternator to said shop. After testing it he found that wires on the rotor had come loose and were contacting the stator causing the voltage drop. He is in the process of rebuilding the alternator with a new rotor, bearings and regulator. Stator was still in good condition.
I will have it back on Monday. Hopefully, after quick reinstall problem will be solved. All told I will have a brand new solenoid and rebuilt alternator for under 200 and the darn notice will be no more.
Hope this will help others having the same issue.
These alternators have been know to give up the ghost early in life, some up grade to the Billet alternators, a great unit with much better slow speed charging power.
