Default What kind of oil consumption do you guys have?

Im a little startled, im putting 1qt every 800-1k miles, no its not spewing blue smoke, has 43k ls2, is that normal? i know that this is a pushrod engine, only reason why im startled is because my Landcruiser v8 doesnt burn any oil.

That is excessive oil consumption. Not normal. Maybe a qt every change but not 1k. If you have cats they could be hiding the burn if it is for sure not leaking.

I never have to add any oil between my yearly oil change.

I wouldn't panic. It could be something as simple as valve seals. Do a compression and leakdown test to see if it is specific to a certain cylinder.

Could be valve seals.
If you do your own work on your car, pull the sparks plugs and see if any one of them are showing signs of crud build up.
This one is typical of bad valve seals.

None on my '09 LS3 and I also have a Catch Can installed -

Do you have a catch can to see if you are pulling a lot into the intake?

Thanks,Matt

My Ls1 used some. Nothing excessive. My Ls3 uses none. I think it will be hit or miss with ls motors. My brother got a lemon and his has drank oil (insane amounts) from the beginning.

No noticeable loss per the dip stick readings between changes here as well and it has almost 100K on it

I put about 5,000 miles a year on my 2008, I check the oil on a weekly basis, and I have never had to add oil.

I've only had my '08 base for 1700 miles, but no movement yet on the dipstick (it just turned over 100K miles). As a point of reference, the vehicle I owned before the Vette was a 2001 Silverado with 5.3 V8, and 198,000 miles. Changed synthetic oil every 5,000 miles, and was NEVER more than 1/2 quart between changes.

What is your idle oil pressure at full operating temp?

Never used a drop...until last summer when we did 22 hard laps at Talladega. Used 1/2 a quart. Has not used a drop since.

My idle pressure is Good, i do drive my car spiritedly every time i get in it, maybe thats the cause? I do know ls engines burn oil when run hard, at least from ls1 owners i heard. I dont have a catch can, i might install one this year.

No.

A catch can will not solve your problem.

Pull the plugs to start and post a picture. If you find nothing then you need to perform the tests I suggested and then maybe look into valve guides.
