I repainted the many scratches etc on the front bumper of my 08 coupe, Crystal Red Metalic. I did a great job with the painting, but cannot get the clear coat right. I need a referral for a good body shop, painter in the Los Angeles area.
Thanks for any good recommendations

What's the issue?

Too dry/pebbly, O.P., runs?

Sorry, I can't help with the referral, but I am curious about what you're having problems with.

Might ask that question in your regional forum.

As noted check with local vette club for good painter.

I know that CRM is 3 stage paint and the clear is tinted. Want to get mine repainted, however a local shop here in FL quoted me $1570 OUCH~
Going to check into another shop that was recommend by vette owner. May just live with my touched up rock chips.

I did some work on a '13 CRM Z06 late last year and the refinish mix was just a straight basecoat & clear coat, nothing special. There were 4 alternates to choose from for that paint code, but it was a near perfect match. Straight on & side tones were just about on the money.

What were you getting for the $$?

My '08 JSB w/ awful rash on brake ducts & surrounding area will need professional attention. Dr. Color Chip won't cut it.
IIRC JSB's also a 3 part tint coat paint, am curious to know what they quoted *for*.

This was quoted with removal of the front bumper, repair of several chips and lower part of bumper where it had the clear coat cracked from running onto parking curb. The bumper is not being replaced and just repaired. They provided a detailed estimate of materials, manhours and repairs.

They are a top notch shop that handle high end cars and show cars. However, I don't consider my 2011 GS a show car.

Called another shop that was recommended and over the phone they gave me an estimate of $1K. That would have to be confirmed by bring the car to them to validate.

Realize the CRM paint might be a challenge to match up especially being on the bumper material. Car has only 12K miles and was garaged.

Based on what you asked. I would assume a good shop could blend in the repair area. If the rash is down lower it should be okay.
I would ask how they are going to mask the car to ensure no over spray on top finishes, door jams as well as under the frame area.

Hope this helps.

It did, and thanks.
Provides a general idea, if they could blend it right I'd be very happy.

For front bumper removal, repair several chips and more it's all hours.
I probably wouldn't have balked at $1.5K, myself.
Only what they'd make-out is if they've removed C6 fronts before, know all ins & outs.

You say they're a top notch shop handling high end cars/show cars. Artisans cost $, wished I'd artisan-grade talent to choose from.
GM's wunderboy colors like VY, CR, JSB & AO are challenging as hell to match/get right; moreover, heard buying the paint alone is where expense begins. Stuff's not cheap making who does the work all the more important.
At least you were garaged, only 12K...mine's been garaged also, but at 54K shows its miles in spite of Apsis guards from mile 1.

However, I don't consider my 2011 GS a show car.
Trick's always been finding one to work on your/our Corvettes who does believe it's a show car.
Hope the other guy comes through, extra $500 never hurts.

From your lips to God's ears.
Guessed at least a grand, why I was somewhat surprised by your reaction. It's the special paint concerning me.
Your point's well taken, but if I had to ask if they were properly prepping, it'd be Clue #1 they're probably not the right shop.

I had my front bumper cover repainted shortly after I bought the car 2 years ago. I removed it myself and took it to the Chevrolet dealer where I bought the car. They said they would try to get the paint close but they couldn't color match it because it was off the car. They did a pretty decent job, and it only cost me $500. I should have had the hood done at the same time, as it has rock chips in it as well.

Note the scraping on the bottom of the bumper in the before photo

While the bumper was being painted, I took the car to the dealer to have the broken radiator support weld repaired

I also refinished the headlight lenses while the bumper was off

This photo is the finished product. I installed new fog lights too. From this angle and light, the color doesn't seem to match.

But from this angle the match is pretty good

I've seen people recommend:

http://seidnerscc.com/ (many locations in the greater LA area)

http://www.bhautobodygroup.com/

http://www.dougscustoms.com/ (most recent--2016)

Whatever you do, ck the recommendations above both online and with club members, etc.

Still doesn't really explain much. Too dull? Too much gloss? Wrong surface texture (orange peel, dry, pebbly, etc). What brand of basecoat & clear coat are you using?
