If you have the throttle down requesting more speed, you'll get more speed (and rpms) before it shifts. And, the rpms will still be up after the shift instead of pressing the throttle again. It all depends on what you are asking the car to do by choosing a throttle position.
Can you stay on the throttle while shifting, or must you leave off between shifts?
I stay on the throttle while paddle shifting. Other than interstate cruising, I generally drive my ‘12 GS in “Sport” mode and paddle shift 90% of the time. To me, it ads to the overall driving experience.
Meguiare's is good. A little paste wax on the paddle shifters and you can really get some slick shifts out of the transmission.
Sorry, couldn't help that one. Welcome to the forum.
Just be sure to hit the paddle about 500 RPM before you want the trans to shift. Otherwise you risk hitting the rev limiter.
I know this is right, and what a PITA that is. And i'm not sure if mine is working right or not, but the damn RPM's won't come back up till they drop back down to almost nothing.....
since we are on the subject of paddle shifting, I noticed the other day I was getting on the highway and I was using the paddles and really got on it and after going thru the gears , still on the gas mind you it seemed to top out at 100 and that was about it . I had the pedal to the floor and still seems like it wasn't going any faster until I dropped it back into drive then it took off again. Anyone know what would cause that to happen.

This is kinda what i'm talking about in my previous post. Am curious of any explanations too...??

Sorry I can’t help here. I’ve never experienced anything like you’re describing. I’ve had to back off the throttle before I got myself in trouble!
I’m curious what may cause what you’re describing.
ok so I think I know what my problem was. So yesterday i decided to drive home from work using the paddles and test it again. So I get up on the highway and i get on it going thru the gears and I got up to 120 with no problems. Naturally i slow back down to the normal speeds after that. So I got into some traffic and had to slow down. Well i didn't down shift and when I punched it the car seems to bog down a little. Then it hit me and I should have known better since i had a stick in my camaro before I got the vet but i needed to down shift to a lower gear before I punched it because I was not going very fast to begin with . So the next time i got into traffic a little I down shifted to 5th or even 4th and then when I needed to get on it I had the power and it didn't bog down. I drove with the paddles this morning and I had no problems . I think its just getting used to how the paddles work and and being mindful of what speed you are at and know what gear you should be in . Just me 2 cents. I will try again today when I leave work and see if I have any issues

I would say a drop in a gear or 2 is always in order with the press of the go pedal...I try to replicate how it works in full auto mode since it really is better at gear management than me.
40 years racing, 7 AMA, 33 SCCA, I wasn't excited about automatic, but wife didn't want to learn manual and I've pretty much retired from racing. Had a 06, but didn't like the way it downshifted, even when on brakes... Like you do heel-toe for with a manual. Heard about improved shifting in 08, so traded for '11. Matches just like manual! Rather than using throttle, I found hard on brakes made for much smoother downshifts. Upshifts, hold to floor and push. But yes, you want about 500 rpm before redline to upshift.
