Trooper gives me a nod.
Took my black Vette out today for a short cruise. At a stop light, a NYS Trooper in a new Dodge Charger pulls up next to me, looks at my car, and nods his head, so I gave him a nod back.
His passenger window comes down, so I lowered mine, and he says "Do you think I have a chance against you?"
I said politely, "You'd probably blow my doors off"
He replied " Well, I don't know about that".
The light turned green and he peeled rubber and was gone in an instant. I wasn't stupid enough to try and drag race him, but it sure made my day!

Was a street officer for over 30 years....if you didn't look over, it would make me take a second look at you, cause something was probably wrong. Like people with all those air freshners on their rearview mirror. Almost a guarantee drug case on a stop....And I've drove Corvettes thru the years and also a Harley at work....we are like most normal folks. There is the occational ******** on the job, but they usually don't last long as the regular officers will see that he gets what comes to him. I have stopped folks to look at their car, especially older 60's model Corvettes....thankfully I've been retired since 2006, don't think I could do the job today with all the people wanting to film what you do with their camera just to post it on Utube. People today don't have the respect for officers that they used to back in the 70's and 80's....

I think a lot of Chargers have the 6.4 liter engine. However he may have had a special police pursuit car with a Hellcat engine so you never know. Sounds like he is a cool cop.

Great story!! Glad you were able to have the exchange. LEOs are people too... and some are definitely Motorheads! Years ago I was driving a Maserati Merak in SoCal and two CHP motorcycle patrolmen spotted me and eventually pulled me over. After the obligatory 'License and registration please..." exchange... came....
"Could we see where the engine is?"
Priceless...

I wonder what he would have done if you would have "tried" him?

In 1970 I had a 67 Red Vette, L88, vert, side pipes, stinger hood. It was an awesome car and the fastest car in the county I lived in then, so far as I know. My wife would drive it occasionally and got stopped several times by cops that wanted to see the car. I only got stopped a couple times, I guess because I wasn't a good looking blond. LOL

Love short stories that humanize cops. The average person can have 100 positive encounters and 1 negative and the story they repeat over and over is the negative one.
That dude seems like a good guy and thanks for sharing.

Many cops I know will become extremely suspicious if you don't look at them when they pace and then pass on the left. They feel you're trying to hide something; albeit whomever their passing is someone they're probably already suspicious of. I always look over and nod or wave.
Guilty people will never look over at a cop.

not making eye contact with an LEO is not unusual behaviour...nodding or waving to them is

Another Jerk cop ( is that redundant?) trying to bust you by trying to seem cool.. Don't ever trust a cop. They don't seem concerned with "serve and protect." Just producing revenue. If you do seventy in a a sixty-five and get a 200 dollar ticket he gets an ATABOY. Should be hunting down drug dealers and pimps, but there is no money in that. Maybe its just the system forcing them to act like Gestapo. It has become pathetic. They have lost all respect. To be clear I am specifically pointing this rant at State troopers and County Sheriffs that just spend 8 hours a day patrolling the highways and back roads protecting us from ourselves. There are certainly real cops in the cities that fight real crime not just generating revenue. But I do not aim this criticism at them. Whew.. I'm done for now.
