I'm a Corvette guy but I think its great what Dodge did with the Demon. It was purpose built for the drag strip just like the new ZR1 will be for the track but no ones losing their mind over that. Seriously, how many owners really track their cars?
I believe there's a lot of hate on the Demon because it would flat out whip any Vettes *** on the drag strip or closed street race and this bruises the ego's of some.
Who cares! If your a fan of American muscle, you should be proud of this. No one wants a GTR, Porsche, etc. to hold the title of most horsepower or fastest 0-60 time ever.
Kudos to Dodge on a great car

Interesting gamble. The Demon is apparently good at what it is designed for, straight line drags. But, not much else.
Corvette is truly an all-around sports car.

They can throw all the HP they want at the Challenger.
At the end of the day, it's still a Dodge.

Dodge abandons Viper in lieu of this?
Corvette is truly an all-around sports car.
Dodge should've been using Viper from the beginning just as GM used Corvette.
Viper's demise is a real pity while this Challenger makes little sense.
Can sales & MSRP between the 2 will be much different?

Well when you consider all the publicity that the Demon has generated for Dodge it makes sense. It's not like they have any other product that people are talking about...

Will it come with color coordinated duct tape so when the top of the vinyl dash develops a crack? Also, the body will have long rusted out before the engine and tranny give way? I had 20 company vehicles with one company I was with for 18 years. Of the 20 vehicles, 2 were Dodges. I had more mechanical issues with those 2 dodges than I did with the other 18 combined. One was on it's 3rd transmission within 1 year. They say never say never, but I will never "own" a Dodge or other Chrysler product.

I give it credit for the power it makes, but then make it a legit NHRA legal machine (i.e. roll cage) like a Copo Camaro or Cobrajet Mustang. Creating this to be street legal is just plain impractical. Guess we'll see how sucessful sales will be and if it was the right move for the company. I don't believe it was, but I could be wrong.
On a side note, imagine the news story when the first one gets wrecked on the street for racing or showing off. It WILL happen.

Anytime any car company has the ***** to build a 9 second car that is street legal and sold to the general public with a factory warranty, is a pretty fantastic time to be a "car guy". I don't care what brand the car is, it's still a good thing.
And while I'm not likely to sell my Grand Sport to buy a Demon, I still respect the hell out of the Dodge Boys for building and selling it.
And by the way, the car does go around corners fairly well, it will pull 1G on a skidpad with those sticky factory installed Nittos. Sure, it's not likely going to beat a real sports car on a twisty road course, but how many of us really get our thrills most often on a track?
I bet 90% of all Corvette/Porsche/Viper/GT-R owners still get most of their driving excitment a couple of hundred yards at a time, in a straight line. And for that, It's hard to beat a car with a warranty that will do a wheelie.

The Challenger is still a heavy car 4000 lbs. I believe Corvette will raise their HP. They may bring back a more powerful ZR1. The Demon price will be $$$ probably about $90k. I'll take a Vette over a challenger any day.

of course you would, you posted this in a Vette forum. We didn't think you'd be jumping ship on us for a mere 840 hp, wheelie-producing, factory warranty Dodge, no way...

It's wheel limited top speed is 168 mph, it comes with drag radials... you put a different tire on the car, you could possibly lower the 0-60 and quarter mile time, possibly make it better, unlikely, but possibly. The car is a double edged sword. I see it like a tesla. A tesla will whoop you in the 8th and quarter, in a half, or mile, you're killing it. I don't see the demon beating anything out now, even the hellcat, in a mile, maybe let alone a half. I could be wrong, don't really care to be wrong.
My ego isn't bruised. I'm more so pissed that Dodge is killing the Viper and pushing the Challenger. They're too stubborn about the Viper. It would have been easy to sell more Vipers. Stop with the 100K price tag, and put a damn auto trans in it. DONE.

looks to me like cars designed for the track don't sell. but cars designed for drag racing do. I wonder the percentage of people who actually track theyre corvettes vs the ones that just drag race them. I fall into the latter category. I don't even know where there is a track near me.

We shouldn't joke because people have been hurt, but I said the same thing. The demon is just going to cause a price decrease on the 392/scats worse than the Hellcat did, and it's going to cause price drops on the hellcat as well (you can already see it.) Pretty soon, young, inexperienced drivers are going to be behind 500-707 HP cars that only cost between 28-37k, and you'll see less of these mustangs, and more of these Challenger and Chargers crashing into crowds.

Plenty of 800hp+ cars running around without cages that get driven on the street. Why does this one somehow lend itself to only strip duty?
It is an 800hp 9 second car with a warranty. That is pretty cool no matter who makes it.
