Thanks Joe, much appreciated!

I hope the other bolts don't break if they have to be removed to replace the broken one (some of them look the same - rusted)

I'll get all the bolts, not reusing the old ones.

Looks like you're getting dinner too

Another concern if it is leaking would be gases entering cabin when car is idling.

Looks like a good time to add some long tube headers.

It could have been picked up from the road, and deposited itself on the spring. It fell out on the garage floor. If your bolts are intact on the front deflector, then it's a crapshoot to where and if it belongs on the C6.
Something your tire tread picked up and then dropped while parked.

I just love it when someone pops into a thread, doesn't read any of the previous responses, and then gives advice that is completely wrong

Why is chevy using grade 10 bolts on a manifold?

I get it on other pieces such as suspension/cradle and such, but it seems to me that these bolts would be stronger than the head and likely not a good choice. Someone school me on material science.

So by that logic what bolt would you use on aluminum heads?

Here is something that at least explains 10.9 bolts, tensile strength, ductility, and fatigue failures to some degree. Starts on page 1 & continued on page 6.

Keep in mind this is kind of a harsh environment for a bolt. Lots of high heat/cool cycles that are always working against it.

Now that it's been identified the bigger question I would have is why did this bolt head pop off without being touched?

Somewhat common apparently. Talked to my GM parts guy to get the parts needed for the repairs & he said they keep those bolts in stock. More common on the truck motors, but probably because there are much more of them on the road.

Also spoke to my buddy there that's the shop foreman/lead master tech. Same story.

I've seen them snap off on other makes (ford, Chrysler) quite frequently too. But those were also corroded from the rust belt we live in, and those manifolds tended to either be cracked or warped too.

Anybody have any idea where this could be from? It was below the middle section of the car.

No new noises or any other indications in the car.

see if its standard or metric. If its standard its not from a Corvette
