Default Accident today!

Some bozo pulled right out in front of me from a stop sign...I was luckily only going around 25, but the guy appeared out of nowhere and I plowed right into his side. Won't know more until the shop does an inspection, but I just bought this a 2012 grand sport with 26K on it that was flawless. They way the fenders are splayed looks like maybe frame damage.

So my guestions are: If they don't total it and repair it , how likely is it to be whole again and not looking like a repaint...the car is victory red and was perfect. Then how much has the value gone down if I want to resell it. I assume no one would want to buy a frame damaged car. My instinct is to get the insurance company to total it and start over. Its a shame because this one was bought right..I paid thirty one at a dealer with a warranty. I have gone after diminished value successfully on another car and was awarded 6 grand...with a vette I think the dim value would be more like 10 grand.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

Hard to say how much the value of your car will go down because it really depends on way too many factors. I had a 2010 Mazda3 that someone backed into when they were pulling out of a parking spot. They were going all of many 5 MPH but the accident still got reported to Carfax. When I went to trade in the Mazda3 (in 2016), the dealership said that if it wasn’t for this ding on the record they would have been able to offer me about 4k more. I ended up selling my car private party and got more for it so I didn’t lose anything in terms of diminished value. But if you can get their insurance company to fork over the money, more power to you.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Flawless? Not so sure, the car looks nice but you have a mix of red and silver brake calipers so makes me think something is amiss.

Diminished value is a reality and part of life unfortunately. If fixed properly you might be ok but you'll have to disclose the accident and that will narrow down your customer base. Best to fully document everything with pictures and receipts in a binder and have it available for the next owner to show it was fixed right and much attention to detail was given.

$31k seems wayyy low also. Is it a 1LT? A 3LT would be around $40k.

As you probably know, DV is about 25% of repair costs.

Here's some photos of the damage...they think its only superficial...no frame involvement, but I am still skeptical they can give me an exact paint match with the same durability of factory, which is amazing.

Other question...are there any desirable aftermarket parts I should substitute during reconstruction like bumpers or hoods!

While heartbreaking to look at, I really don't see all that much damage. From the pictures, that car can be easily repaired.

+1.... yup, I've seen a whole lot worse being repaired that turned out really nice. I think you'll be good to go with the right body shop selection.

Be careful referring to that color as "Victory Red"....I'm pretty sure that's Torch Red (and I'm also pretty sure that Grand Sports didn't ever come in Victory Red). Just don't want you to have confusion at your body shop and order a wrong color....check that out. I believe Torch Red is 70U on the sticker in your glove box.

Just FYI....sorry about the accident.

You are correct, Torch Red replaced Victory Red in 2010.

Get GM replacement parts. I learned the hard way even with a lot of body work aftermarket body panels will never fit properly. From the looks of the pictures it appears yor car is repairable. If there is hidden frame damage underneath it may be totaled. Core support replacement is also repairable. A good body shop should be able to do a good paint match. The trick is to find a good body shop. It's my estimation that 80% of body shops out there are more like butcher shops. Dealerships are no better.

Save the old pictures of the accident as when the time comes to sell it and the accident is questioned they will see the pictures that show that it wasn't too bad
