How many of you 65+ members still work on your corvettes? I'm 70 and still enjoy doing my own work. Although it is getting harder to crawl underneath to change shocks and sway bars. But the big smile on my face makes it all worth it!

I do many of the things on mine. I always do my own oil changes. I just finished doing a shifter cable grommet replacement on the shifter handle. I have done all the mod installations. I will admit there are a lot of issue I would not try and tackle what with all the electronics on the cars now, but as long as I can jack the car up and get it on stands I will continue to do as much as possible. I am 71.

I do quite a few things to mine still. The things I don't like doing I take to the mechanic.

As "we" grew up working on cars was a fun hobby.
Vehicles were simpler then.
Remember Holley carburetor track packs? Jets and springs. Duel quads and six packs. Duel point distributors. Hurst shifters. Great memories and fun.
I still jack a car up and do all the easy repairs and modifications.
But, a C6 fuel pump replacement or harmonic balancer, I'll leave to a repair shop these days.

When I was young I was always tearing cars apart. It was fun. Then I moved on to motorcycles in 1970. Same thing with them, up until the early 2000s or so. But I was gradually getting tired of it.
Now? Screw it, I hate it, plus it's becoming a PITA getting up and down from the ground. I still change my own oil but that's about it. I put splash guards on the Vette last summer and it damn near killed me.
When my buddy gets room in his garage I'm having him put in a new shift cable, tie the shift pawl back, and do some scratch removal.

71 and neither of my Vettes have ever seen the inside of a mechanics garage. I did have Dennis of DD replace my nav unit with a Kenwood. I replaced the entire center console on my 2007 and added lots of accessories. My 2013 won't break so there's not much to do except oil change and drive it. Hit 162mph and couple of months back.

Will be breaking thru the "70 barrier" this August and still do as much as I can..."personalization" installs, prepping and maintaining for shows, minor mechanical/maintenance items; but I will leave anything beyond that alone--should anything happen--and take it to a pro. These cars are just too complicated now; they're really computers with wheels.
I also take care of my wife's ATS, my DD Subaru, and my daughter's car. It all keeps me going. I had open heart surgery two years ago next week, and couldn't drive for a time, so I appreciate my Vette more now than ever.

Glad to hear this! I'm early 60s, been wrenching since before I could legally drive. I can't handle working on my back anymore, but I found a place about an hour away that rents fully-equipped bays with hoists, tools, and it's airconditioned. Looking forward to getting back into the swing. My wife's uncle was still working on his Stang GT in his 80s, so there's some years left in us all.

Retired mechanic soon to be 70 and still doing most of my own work including keeping my families fleet of vehicles running and serviced. I need to keep working with my hands so as not to go stir crazy being retired. I'm looking foreword to my next project installing the Wind Restrictor that I ordered.
