Default Installed newer Corvette radio in my 07. Here's what no one mentions...

So like the title says, this past weekend, I installed a 2010 base radio into my 07. The CD player in mine was broken and I really missed not having an AUX port. I just wanted to document my experience for future thread searching purposes.

I swapped the radio without much hassle. The only thing that was noticeable differences between my original radio and the one from the 2010 model is that the electrical connector is upside down (rotated 180 degrees) and the preset buttons are a lot easier to press.

After I buttoned up everything, the head unit indicated "Locked" which is completely expected due to the anti-theft system. Additionally, I noticed all of the chimes, e.g. such as open door, unbuckled seatbelt, etc. have a different sound than the 07 head unit.

I was able to find a local mechanic that charged me $40 to reset the radio to my car and I also had him update the BCM with the HUD installed flag while he was in there. All of the dealerships wanted $135 to do this as they would charge an hour minimum.

Since the radio has been unlocked, the seatbelt chime is now ridiculously loud. I always buckle so I will rarely hear it, just for passenger notification, but it is still super annoying.

Otherwise, everything went without a hitch. I have a working CD player again and the AUX works great too. It took a second to realize that AUX automatically gets selected when you plug something into the port on the head unit. At first, I tried switching it to the AUX port with nothing plugged in but that seems impossible. Once you know though it is easy.

Hmmm, interesting. I swapped a 2012 Nav for the 6-disk changer in my 2007. Did not notice any difference int the chime volume (or tone). Could just be variances in individual head units ... or random. Still happy I did the swap ... thanks for the writeup.

From the Owners Manual.......

Chime Level Adjustment
The radio is used to adjust the vehicle’s chime level.
To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold
pushbutton 6 with the ignition on and the radio power
off. The volume level will change from the normal
level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display.
To change back to the default or normal setting,
press and hold pushbutton 6 again. The volume level
will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL
will appear on the radio display. Only one chime will
be heard when changing from the normal to the
loud setting. Each time the chime volume is changed,
three chimes will sound as an example of the new
volume selected. Removing the radio and not replacing
it with a factory radio or chime module will disable
vehicle chimes.

From my experience the two settings are loud and louder.

Exactly, as opposed to the "auto volume level".

It was on my to do list to check the owner's manual to see if there was some adjustment. I will check to see what it is set to. Perhaps this setting is stored in the radio and the previous owner was hard of hearing. Judging by the CD accidentally left in the unit, that was probably the case.

The other thing I have noticed is that the chiming seems to be more consistent now. Previously, sometimes my car would make chimes and sometimes it wouldn't. The behavior was very inconsistent. Now, it seems to work consistently.

To me the chimes are WAY to loud even on the "less loud" setting....LOL. I'm assuming that these chimes come through the rad so it is pointless to try and find the annoying little B@#$%&D so as to stuff a piece of rag around it to tone it down a bit.....

The chiming in the 08 radio is so loud, I am considering putting the 07 radio back in.

I noticed when I put the new stereo in my car last weekend that the chime/gm/adapter dealy thing had a pot on the back of it that was probably for adjusting the output volume of the factory chimes. I'll fiddle with it if/when I pull the unit out for any reason.

You might get one of these. $10 vs $700 for a new radio. Tunes, directions & phone calls bluetoothed from your smart phone

Won't help the stupid loud chime. My 07 radio doesn't have the AUX port at all, which is why I put the 08 radio in.
