Default Column Lock Bypass Install

If you own a 2005 manuel C6 this modification is a must. I've own this C6 for two years without an issue but the dreaded service column lock came out of nowhere. So I decided to install a column lock bypass from ebay (WW7 posted a link if your interested). This a great little product and couldn't be happier with the results. Here are a few pictures of my install and youtube install video, these guys make it look simple which it is but those damn clips are a PITA!

Column Lock Bypass.

Before my install pic
These two clips are a PITA!
Out with the old column lock wiring harness.
Bypass installed.
This ribbon was fragile as hell and broke on me! No biggie.
Close up shot
All put back together.

I hate to be the bearer of bad new , but you bought the wrong column lock bypass.. If you would have read the many threads on this forum about this subject you would have seen that the one from 'Corvette's of Houston" is the one that has had problems and may stop working after a while.. The bypass everyone suggests using that has a pretty flawless record is the one in the site below...Sorry...WW

Funny you noticed that, my thread was wrong. That is exact bypass I purchased. For some odd reason I thought I purchased it from C of H. I'll change my thread

That IS the one from Corvettes of Houston. I bought one also from the ebay site WW7 posted. I wondered the same thing. I called them and talked to the parts dept. Guy asked me what name was on return address and then said, yes, that's us on ebay. (kfn01) ebay seller. Return addy on part was not Corvettes of Houston though.

The guy assured me that it was the quality, correct part and not the problem part. Has me wondering because the guy that used to work for C of H left them and started his own auto repair business. I know because I called him at his new shop and he confirmed that he originally designed and built the part and said that C of H is NOT selling his original part. He also said he could build me one special but it isn't his top priority anymore. He said he didn't know who built the part C of H is selling.

So, getting two different opinions from two different people.

Edit,,just called Corvette World of Houston again and they told me they are NOT kfn01 on ebay. 1 month ago they told me they were kfn01 on ebay. I dunno..

Honestly, this is the first time I've heard of this part. Forgive the noob-ish question, but why is this a necessary part?

Just get the permanent fix done that is now available at your GM dealer.Your wasting your money on the aftermarket CL module

I don't believe Dave Nash makes his bypass any longer... Here is one made by TICK that will do the job.. I would stay away from the one made by "Corvettes of Houston" I have seen many complaints about them not working after a few years...WW
This one will work https://www.tickperformance.com/tick...5-corvette-c6/

The Column lock on the 2005 Manual tends to fail , and it prevents the car from being able to start when this happens. You do get a warning on the DIC.
If you do ever get the message and your car won't start, you have to disconnect the battery, and when you hook the battery back up, the car will start.
You would have to do this anytime the message comes up and prevents the car from starting.

You jumped on a 3 year old thread, which is now outdated. You can still buy and install a bypass if you want to, but GM engineers have a permanent fix for the 2005 Sterring Column Lock Issue.
They put out a TSB in Nov of 2018, and it is a permanent fix. It is a $600.00 bill to get it done however.
