I posted this first in the tech section, but no responses.
As I'm leaving my neighborhood, I notice the AC not cooling. Then I see the DIC message, "Engine Hot Air Conditioning OFF." The temp gauge needle has not moved from it's coldest temp.
I went back home and let it sit overnight. This morning I put it in engine mode and immediately get the message "Engine Hot Air Conditioning OFF." I did not start the engine.
I disconnected & reconnected the battery. Started the engine, temp gauge is now working and no DIC message. All is right in the world now.
Anyone else had or heard of this problem? Hopefully it was just one of those pesky gremlins acting up and nothing more serious.

If you have access to IR temp. gauge it makes easy, non intrusive testing of possible problem. I would suggest you verify T stat, radiator operation, fan connection, ECM connections, all connections in passenger foot well. Just to give you some peace of mind.

Yes, that is why I posted this. Thanks! Out of all your suggestions, I can verify the fans were operating at the time.
Hopefully it's so mild that it will stop, but.... with no changes, it will eventually come back, this is our reality
I realize the use of the term "gremlin" is a broad brush term used for an unexplainable event. Again, that is why I posted on here to give someone the opportunity to give me a solid explanation of what might have happened. Yes, I don't want this to happen again.

Happens all the time, sometimes w/ AC sometimes other functions.
But truth is for reasons no one knows a reboot often rectifies these bugs.
At shutdown/start-up all computers are supposed to rest, but...
Why whenever I hear a weird symptom I always suggest a reboot, first.
In your case it worked, for now anyway; because, it isn't unusual for AC head units to go south, either.
Happens again, be thinking HU.

Some might say, there is no such thing as an unexplained event, only one that has yet to be discovered...
