C6 mirror attachment to the windshield
Red's rear view mirror has been vibrating more and more lately, so tonight I bought three 5/64" drill bits. As suggested by someone here on CF, I'm planning to cut them to 1" lengths, take apart the back of the mirror, and replace the three probably bent mount pins.
After releasing the plug behind the mirror, I grabbed hold and tried to tilt & twist it off the stem like I did when I installed my Escort's BlendMount. That's when I discovered that the whole assembly was moving and I couldn't twist the mirror off. I don't know how the base is attached to the windshield, but my girlfriend seems to think there may be a wedge glued to the glass and the base slides onto that wedge.
That sounds plausible to me, but I really don't know how the darned thing is attached. Is she right? If she is, can I remove the mirror base from whatever is attached to the glass and replace it with a new one that doesn't wobble?
And yes, the windshield was replaced about a year ago by my [trusted] dealership.

I would almost gurantee you it's an aluminum wedge as you described, glued to the windshield.
The mirror either has a retainer clip or a set screw holding it to the wedge.

Had my windshield replaced a while back, C6 2006 Convertible. Didn't watch the whole procedure but both the Mirror and the On Star had mounts on the windshield. Looked like he just snapped them off by pushing the right way. Don't know if there was a screw removal to allow that or not but it was real easy for him. I used Safelite Auto Glass for the windshield, they are all over so a call to them might get you the information if you give them a call and explain the situation.

rookie installer?
During a windshield replacement, apparently the installer didn't know the correct procedure to get the rear view mirror 'off' the windshield.
Believe one grabs the mirror and its a 1/4 turn to release the tabs without breaking them. If broke and mirror put back on, you will have the wobble. Best to ask the installer how many Vette windshields they have personally replaced, and tell them if they break the mirror tabs > they BUY THE REPLACEMENT mirror and glass base

You might be not twisting hard enough to get the mirror off. Take a close-up picture of the mirror attachment on both sides of your windshield. Maybe it is attached incorrectly or you are not twisting hard enough. A picture to everyone might help us see if its mounted wrong. Good Luck.
