Default just gavee my car to the mechanic for all 4 brake pads change

found a mechanic with over 200 ratings which are all very good. gave the keys and their going to install Akebono OEM performance pads. with installation its 560 $ CAD before tax. he told me the installation for all 4 pads should take about 1 hr. How come GM wanted to charge me for 4 hours of labour?!!?!

It's what the book says to charge. You got a great rate at only 1 hr, unless the mechanic charges $400.00 an hour for his service

he didnt say exactly 1 hr. said around an hour maybe 2. Buddy GM wanted to charge with 700 for those garbage stock pads, and 400 for 4 hours of labour. i legit called them crooks and hung up lol

There are so many videos and step by step instructions online these days that I have a hard time paying anybody for labor. That includes plumbers, electricians, and anybody else that will try and rip me off. At least as long as I'm still young enough to try it myself.

I sleep better knowing that I did the work. "Nobody loves your car as much as you do.." Don't wanna do your own work, that's fine. I don't have money to burn though.

Amen, I had never done brakes on a modern car but after getting an estimate to swap out OEM from the dealers I said I'll try. Went on YouTube and also the "how to" section on these forums.
Bought the Autozone Gold ceramics padlets and went to work. Took my time and did all four in maybe 4 hrs total.
Great feeling of self satisfaction

Great job on the DIY. I also do most of my own work on the relatively easy stuff like brake pads, sway bar links, shocks, oil changes, water pump change out, etc.
There is so much DIY videos on most everything, it's hard not to give it a go. As long as one has the tools needed, then have at it!

The only thing i won't touch is the trans and engine. My youngest son has a shop to do engine stuff.

Not anything complicated....If you can turn a wrench and tighten a c-clamp, you can swap pads.
