Default Z51?

I just bought a 2005 C6 Corvette. It wasn't advertised as having the Z51 package, but I'm starting to think that it might have it. The plate in the dash lists "Z51" and the brake rotors have drilled holes. What do you experts think? Can you have a "Z51" code and not have a full Z51 performance package? Also, I should mention that it has Goodyear "Supercar" tires.

If the RPO tag says Z51 and the VIN matches, then I'd say you have Z51.

Regarding the second part of your question, what content do you think your Z51-optioned car is missing?

Edit: In before someone says to get a VIS.

The Z51 came with the Supercar tires. Check your RPO sticker in the glovebox, it should list Z51.

This car only has an amazing 10,000 miles on it, and so the tires still have good tread. When they wear out in a year or two, I'll get some new ones with harder rubber and a longer tread life.

It definitely has "Z51" on the RPO sticker.

Mine wasn't advertized neither, but I got the Z51 package. Basically, we have the Z06 suspension from an older model Z, drilled rotors, different springs, which makes the car ride lower among other things. Z51 Performance Package,
performance-oriented package for
the Gymkhana/Autocross
enthusiast; includes extra cooling,
stiffer springs and stabilizer bars,
specific shock absorbers, larger
brakes with cross-drilled rotors,
specific tires and Z51-specific
6-speed manual when ordered with
6-speed manual transmission or
(GU2) performance axle ratio with
6-speed paddle shift automatic

I bought a 2009 with an amazing 3000 miles on it about 18 months ago and one of the first things I did was replace tires. There's more to it than just tread depth.

Obviously just my $ .02 so take it for what it's worth.

Tread depth is not the only measure of tire life. Summer hi-performance tire compounds harden with age and lose their ability to "grip". Most tire experts suggest replacing tires after 6-7 years regardless of tread depth remaining. Your tires are nearing 13 years old and should be replaced for safety.

"IF" you keep these tires on your car it will be like driving your car at 50% efficiency. You don't understand what your car should drive like so you have nothing to compare it to.

IF it were my Z51 those tires would be gone already.

Don't get stuck in a rain storm in those tires, or you will wish you had changed them out.
Those tires are now 12 years old. Get rid of those useless, noisy, dangerous tires. You will thank us for giving you that advice. It will be like driving a different car with new tires, as long as they are not Goodyear tires.
I changed my goodyear F1 Supercar tires after 3 years, and 1/2 thread. I got caught in the rain, and the tires were useless. I was hydroplaning all over the place at 50mph. I bought new tires the next day. I could not believe how much better the Firestones were for quiet, great in rain, and much better thread life. At 85K miles, I just put on my 4th set of Firestones this Spring.

What's a good set of tires to put on this car that isn't so terribly expensive? I don't need run flat tires, and I'm not going to be driving extremely fast or on a road course. I just need a good ride with minimal noise and long tread life.

What tires do you recommend that are not super expensive? I don't need run flat tires. I just want a good ride, minimal noise and excellent tread life. I'm not going to drive at extremely high speeds, and I'm not going to drive on a road course.

Check out tire rack. it will give you great options and each tire on their site is rated for noise, wet condition, hydroplaning, cornering, etc. etc.

I went with the firestone WO Indy 500's, but the thread pattern has changed in the past few years, so I can't comment on the new thread pattern.
I got the last of the old stock for my current set. I'll need to check for other tires on my next ones in 4 years or so.

I got the 4 tires for $751.00 shipped

Here is the old thread pattern of the Firestone WO Firehawk Indy 500's vs the Goodyear F1 supercars, and the ratings for each.
Just from this, you can see how terrible a tire the F1's are.

Pretty much any tire will outperform the F1's, except other Good year tires. Those are all crap IMO.

Many go with Micchelin, but they are much more expensive than most, but well worth the price.
The Firestones, Bridgestones and Continentals are some of the popular non run flats used by many on this forum.

Here is a comparison of a few tires for the Z51 performance package for coupe or convertible.
I see that the new thread design of the Indy 500 still rates good. the top 3 are non runflats, the bottom 2 are run flats.
