I finally got my key made and set about to reprogram the new fob. I used the short program, followed the instructions, had the good fob on the console and waited for the 10 minute countdown to end. It never did read "ready for fob 3" It just said "fob auto learn". When it was done, I removed the fob and tried unlocking the doors. Nada, zilch nothing. Here's where it gets bad....my working fob now will not work. no start, doors, alarm trunk....nothing.
I am trying it again but when I put the new fob in the slot after it was done learning it read "no fob detected" I haven't tried it with my old fob yet.......

HELP!!!!!!

I had trouble programming mine as well. If it doesn't recognize a fob it won't program. These are the steps I took:

1) took out the three screws holding the glove box
2) slid antenna out of slot and let hang loose
3) did the turn key five times
4) check dic for 'ready for fob3'
5) back to glove box and laid fob on top of antenna
6) within a few seconds it beeped ready for fob 4
7) hit the off button at the ignition and I was done.

Well in panic mode I drove to the chevy dealer for a complete reprogram. That's the bad news, the good news is now I have anumber 1 fob, the memory setting from previous owner are gone and I can program my own and now I can order a number 2 fob. The original fob that came with the car is no longer useable. All in all, I'm feeling much better. When I order my number 2 fob I will let chevy program it...........I don't need to start drinking this early on a saturday......

Thank you for the assist though. I may try that next time......
