Default Failed Emissions

My 2007 had been sitting for about 6 weeks while on vacation. Battery failed while gone. Changed battery and went for emissions test. Failed due to lack of data in computer. Question is how much driving do I have to do to get enough data before the retest?

Do a Google search for GM drive cycle. It will tell you the specific driving conditions that you must complete to have all systems report "ready" for emissions testing.

If your failure report lists what sensors came back as "not ready" you can do a drive cycle specifically for those, or a Tech II or equivalent scanner can list (and sometimes run) those sensors.

First check the test requirements for your state. When you disconnect the battery two smog test checked values are reset. Here in Nev, we can pass the test with one of those values failing but not both. So when I had this problem two years ago, all I had to do was start the car, let it run a few minutes or drive it, shut it down and let it sit for an hour or so then repeat. I did it five times over three days and did a retest and passed with only the one failure. You may be able to do the same thing if your state allows it.

A 15-20 min drive should easily do it. Probably overkill.

Some reasonably priced scan tools have an "emissions readiness" tab. With it you can test whether your car's drive cycles are completed. The tool shows you the same data the test station is looking for.

This Actron CP9575 has become one of my favorites. I snapped these pics while testing out a friend's Mini Cooper before she went for emissions testing in AZ. Takes 2 minutes to run this test. You could test in your driveway, or carry it with you and test while in line.

that is not really a "fail" - the computer had not gone through all the cycles which takes a bit of driving to occur

Default smog test

I would figure about an hour but just driving it is not enough.

1) Make sure you have 3/4 tank of fuel and if you get below half tank, add enough fuel to get to 3/4 tank.
2) You will need some cold starts, warm up and drives(probably a couple)
3) Some drive time of maybe an hour total and that will probably take care of it.

Good luck.

I've had that happen before. Just daily drive it for a few days and it should be ok.

I wish everyone well. I have over 200 drive miles on mine and the evap system is still not ready. I keep trying the drive cycle routine as well as driving normally and still no luck.
