I previously was exceeding the MAF's capabilities on my LS2, I am getting an ALKY control kit, and will be converting to SD tune due to the MAF issue. I am planning on placing the meth nozzle before the MAF to utilize the IAT that is built in the MAF. Does anyone see an issue with this? Remember ill be going to a speed density tune! I assume if i want to go back to stock ill just have to my a new MAF. Should i remove the screen to allow the METH to flow easily through the MAF?
Go to the Alky Control site and pose the Q there. This guy knows his stuff. Even with speed density only, I don't think you want to spray meth directly onto your MAF (IAT).
I was always of the school to spray after the MAF regardless, and when the IAT is built in, set up a separate IAT. In fact, I think he might have an IAT setup in a MAP. Again, the guy at Alky Control will know. Very helpful as I've asked him Qs in the past.
I'd have no problem spraying through the maf on an SD tuned car. I'd also pull the screen because it's main purpose is to smooth the airflow for the maf to read.
Meth is used for the cooling effect and octane. You need to have the IAT reading the cooler air for you to take advantage of the meth. Normally the ECM will pull timing when the temp reaches a certain point. So...if you have your tune set up right, you can have it set up to pull tons of timing if temp gets too high in case the meth isn't working.
I just got rid of my maf, using a stand alone iat in place of the maf, drilled into my charge pipe, I was also spraying meth before the maf, leave the screen on. Lots of discussion on this topic on the forced induction section.
I've read most of all the threads on the forum and everyone freaks out if you are wanting to spray before MAF, but they don't realize people run SD tunes. I guess my two biggest concerns are. Is the IAT built into the MAF as good of a quality as some of the aftermarket ones? Also will the screen prevent some of the methanol from reaching the motor? I just want to make sure that if i spray before the MAF that it will be stable and work properly.
