I would unhook the battery when doing anything electrical. But that's just me.

If you power down your circuit breaker in your house when changing a light bulb - then disconnecting the battery to change a headlight applies.
I leave the battery connected - I turn the light/headlight off and just change them.

That is exactly how I change a light bulb in house...
Just making sure since manual says to do so, high voltage risk of shock.

Or...if you're "more comfortable", just disconnect the battery, and if you're changing the light out in your garage, probably safer to pull the main breaker to the house as well....
.....Now there is absolutely NO chance.....unless there are ANY battery powered devices within 50' of the HL assembly...better to remove all of those too. Move them across the street to a neighbor's house....Now there is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE...

It wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery. Unless you are in a state that has emissions testing and your sticker is up soon.
I personally don't, Definitively don't with house light bulbs or even fixtures. As long as the switch before it is off it is dead.
I have don't plugs live and such when I have to do it.

No. As long as your headlights are "off"
I'd worry more about dropping those little screws down into the dark voids of the interior of the assembly. Drop one and it's gone...
