A Eulogy
This is a long one, so be forewarned.
From my tongue-in-cheek Facebook post:
Dear Roxanne,
You were a beautiful, majestic, rocket ship of a car. I'm sorry that I didn't contact Discount Tire to get you new tires soon enough. I'm sorry I left at that exact minute on a rainy day. And I'm sorry that the hillbilly who was in front of us was afraid of deer. You will be missed. Gone, but not forgotten. I remember the first time I saw one of your sisters and pined for the day I would have one. You were that one. Thank you for my first taste of true speed and handling. I hope you enjoyed the routine carbon clearing, rub downs, and new jewelry. I will treat your little sister with the same care, respect, and love that I showed you. The memories from the day I got you to the day I lost you will persevere forever.
In mourning,
Adam
On July 5th (the day before my birthday ) I was following a pickup into work. It was rainy out, and the new rear tires that I ordered over 2 weeks prior to replace my quickly balding Continentals still had not arrived. The truck driver in front of me is apparently very afraid of our venison friends and stood on his brakes for a deer on the side of the road as he came out of a turn.
Let me clarify. The deer was on the side of the road. Standing. On the side. Not in the road.
Problem being I was still in the turn. When I braked to avoid hitting him, those balding rear tires decided they'd rather be up front where the front tires were getting taken care of (I'd been on an offset schedule for a while).
The front tires revolted and decided to be friends with a guardrail. The funniest part being that our cars are too low for a guardrail, so I kinda just took out an upright support going sideways. A few more feet of clearance, and this just would have been the best drift ever seen on that curve.
Roxy took care of me, though. I felt in full control - you know, until I hit the guardrail....
I originally bought the C6 while looking for something at the bottom of the depreciation curve to hold me over until I had a garage and money for a C7. I was looking at used CTSs at $20k when I realized that used Corvettes were only a little more.
I bought my base A6, Z51 with 60k miles for $23k. Red wasn't my first choice, but it was what I could afford at the time. It definitely grew on me. Two new struts for the hood and she was good as new. I later went on to wrap some parts in 3M carbon fiber vinyl, swapped out seat covers and shift boots, installed HUD, a new Kenwood head unit with XM and bluetooth, and tuned with a Diablo. She was a base, but she had all of the creature comforts I needed.
I got word that the car was totaled last Friday. She had over 113k miles on her and the only non-routine maintenance I ever did was replacing both sides of the nylon shift linkages.
This was my second accident in the C6. The first one came 9 days after getting it, when someone T-boned me pulling blind out of traffic. She's kept me safe both times - almost unexpectedly so in a plastic car. I'm glad she was totaled. She's been through enough.
I paid $23k to buy the car. I received $2500 in diminished value from the insurance of the driver in the first accident. My payoff is over $19k from my insurance. I paid somewhere around $1800 to drive a Corvette for 3+ years and almost 60k miles. I guess if my goal was to minimize depreciation - mission accomplished.
As I read more and more through my Facebook post, I realized how it was more than just a parody. It was real. I had great times in that car, and I will miss it. I had always planned on keeping it as a DD with a new C7.
I pulled my HUD, head unit, and tune yesterday. As I closed the hood for the last time, I gave her 2 single pats on the hood. I looked back at her one last time as I drove away.
I pick up my C7 on Saturday. Her name is Cheyenne. Hell of a birthday present.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your C6. But it is working out OK with the C7.
Post some pics and give us your opinion of it.

I guess the mileage is the full reason for the total.

Hahaha it wasn't my first choice (NRB or CG), but it was the cleanest car with a great deal!
$46k
2,227 miles
M7
3LT, Z51, NPP, FE4
Exposed carbon fiber roof and carbon interior package
$72k sticker!
Big jump from a 60k mile base model!

Sad to hear about the C6, but wow that C7 is the cat's meow. I usually don't care for the C7's black vents and add-ons. However this yellow C7 with the black wheels and roof is probably the best looking C7 I ever saw. Good luck and God's speed.

I definitely couldn't do yellow without the black accents. The ones with chrome wheels are WAYYYY too much for me. I still want to tone it down a little more with carbon flash mirrors and spoiler, possibly a stinger, and either carbon flash or carbon fiber skirts and splitter.
