Any benefits to doing a base tune?

Yep, me too. The next question should be, where to go in Phoenix to get a tune done.
My own question is where to go to get some performance upgrades done, I'm planning a differential cooler and supplemental auto-trans cooler, beings new to the area I don't know where to go for help with the project.

I would agree on the whole torque management thing for the base car would be something that gets in the way. I have HP Tuners so I've removed all that crap myself and end up with a peppier feeling car, I've only done some minor tweaks like removing CAGS and the tune for top end power, timing adjustment and lean out a bit.
Headers and cold air will show the biggest gain; my LS1 camaro saw it jump from 298 to 347 on headers and air lid. Any LS car should show a good gain with headers, cold air and tune over stock.

Nothing wrong with getting a dyno tune now, it will definitely help with the heat by bringing on the cooling fans at a lower temp. A good tuner (which I assume you have there in Texas) should be able to bring out at least 25 RWHP with a tune. If your mods are on hold, wouldn't you rather have your Vette run a bit cooler & get another 25 ponies at the wheel? I know I would.

I wouldn't waste your money on a stock car doing a tune. couple it with some mods that would require it or actually benefit from it ie headers/cai. or further like a cam. We are the sponsor on here in PHX and if you check us out you'll see we do the bulk of the LSX stuff in AZ and specialize in vettes.

I think you'd like it Ed!
I'm not sure why anyone would say it's not worth it on a base car, as long as the tuner is good, he can pull out the most HP possible & lower your temps. Living in a hot area 12 months a year is definitely worth that. If your mods aren't planned for another year, I know I'd want my Vette to be the fastest it could & run at the lowest temps possible. Only reason I'd see was if money was an issue.

You could have taken me up on the offer to come out to Scottsdale a while back. We could have done your headers on the lift, you could have planned a visit to get your car tuned and could have done one of those ridiculous displays of "wretched excess" Scottsdale Cars and Coffees...haha....

Yeah, and as complex as it is, mostly a tuner is making some small adjustments here and there. For example, on the first screen cap, when I installed the SC and as I was building my tune, I was datalogging a crazy saw-toothed spark advance between 5500RPM and redline. Timing would drop completely to zero, back up again to +12*, back down, etc. I found it under power hop and spark control. On a 2nd gear roll to WOT, tires would break loose about 4500 RPM and this TM function was kicking in. I also made changes in Max Torque and fast torque exit.
Notice all the "Fuel cutoff" controls you see. When boosting the LAST control you want to use when in PE is fuel cutoff.
