Default Starter button

Seems like I saw a thread about this before but could not find it. I even tried to do a search on it but came up empty handed so here goes.
It just happens ever so often. Actually its done it twice since I've had the car (about six months). I go to push the starter button and nothing happens and seems to go to acc mode. I hit the button several times more times and does the same thing. Then maybe the third time she cranks right up. I never have been stranded before with this problem but sure would like to know the possible cause just in case it does it again. I don't get the "NO FOB" in the DIC and everything else seems normal.
This is on a 05 Z51 6-speed. Again I haven't had the car long but boy do I love it.

The only times so far that mine hasn't cranked when I hit the button were times that I didn't quite have the clutch all the way down to the floor. Any chance you're not quite all the way in on the clutch?

Mine does the same thing on VERY RARE occasion. Letting the clutch out, depressing it again has resolved the issue every time.

I have a 2013 for 3 years and it has done that a few times. I just push the bottom of the rocker and then push the top start and it has started every time.

once this week, I hit the starter button and it cranked for more times than it should've. Then when I stopped and hit the kill, it went to ACC and took a couple of tries to kill the power.

It was glitchy and only occurred once but it's in the back of my mind.

Electrical and batteries are batshit things with C6.

my 07 A6 has been doing this since new - my theory is that it is a software glitch - happens once in 6 months to me

Short of the DIC stating FOB not found since you have it in your left pocket and the car can't see it,
clutch not all the way down in a manual, or foot on the brake and pushing the auto shifter all the way forward (if the park button lever has to be tweaked to solve that)

Then why not just pull the start button and clean it if you think that its the problem.

The front rocker pulls right out of the housing with some pick tools and this allows you to clean the internals of the starter button.

Let me dig a bit, and see if I still have any photos of pulling the starter button apart to clean the internals.

I wished Norton Security would have a download for my 08..I've been hacked to damm many times...I cross my fingers every time i try to start it..But first i have to get the damm door open.like tonight i needed to go to a store and my drivers door would not open.It opened part way only after about 10 trys i opened my hatch and pulled the cable..New battery in FOB and a fairly new battery.and about1/2 of the time the memory setting never go to my setting.I've read tons of post on this forum about about the same problems.."Computer Gliches"..

Hence the reason that I go through the entire electrical system/ all its connectors to clean and re-grease all the contact points once the car is a few years old.

Its not software glitches, but less than stellar electrical contacts in the wiring that cause all the problems to the modules to glitch instead (drop in the voltage to them).

You can pick up a new starter button for about $25.00 if you think that's the problem... WW

I had that happen to me 2 weeks ago ('05 w/z51). Disconnected the battery and reconnected and all was well.

This is crazy, but my 2012 GS does that occasionally at the post office where there is a huge cell tower. Also happened a couple of times when my fob was resting on my iPhone.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.l
Since the starter button is so cheap I may just replace it just in case as it does show a bit of wear. Also thinking and by reading most of the past posts here this seems to be kind of normal problem/clitch with no rhyme or reason to why it does it.
Also I'll be sure to keep my fob away from my cell too.
BTW, my apologies, I never intended to say it was definitely the button itself or it was the cause, I was just wondering what could be the cause because again, I've seen other people's complaints about this. But, yet no real fix or what the cause is. Yes, it's not a auto. This is a 6-SPEED car. I'll report back with anything hopefully I might find to help others that see this happen.
I really love this car and just didn't want to get stranded.
BTW how many others of you that own 05's 6-SPEEDS that get the steering wheel locked? That's another thing I have read although mine has never done that before. If it does this, is there a work around if it happens?
Again thanks for every ones help.
