I have done this before on my DDX5901, but cannot seem to get it done on this DDX6702S. When I put the thumb drive in, it says customize NG??
Anyone else run into this?
I made one in Photoshop
for mine (JVC) following all the directions but the radio wouldn't recognize the file until I went back and used "save for web" instead of "save as". That strips out the EXIF data and imbedded color profile.

Thanks for the reply...
I think the NG means disabled. I don't think the splash screen can be changed on this model. Hope I am wrong.
I checked the manual online http://manual.kenwood.com/files/B5A-0987-00.pdf , p.55 has instructions for changing the background screen. This is exactly like mine (JVC and Kenwood are one and the same I believe) on which the splash (AKA startup) screen can't be changed. I'm stuck with JVC for a few seconds at startup, but the background screen is on always the rest of the time.
The trouble with background screens is it underlays the icons/menus and so a central crossed-flags made it look unsightly, cluttered and hard to see the info. Since 99.9% of the time I have the BT audio screen displayed, I made (through trial and error) this screen that has a black background (even less cluttered than the OEM ones) with the logo in an unused portion at the bottom.
If you like it, PM me your e-mail and I'll send you the jpeg file, it should be plug and play as the dimensions are the same for your unit according to the manual. Note that the color of the "corvette" script can be changed to match your exterior. I did that, it was originally white. (Sorry for reflections, and also it looks orange in the photo but in reality it's victory red).

Looks good Ben...
I can change my background no problem. I feel certain that the start up can be changed. I am just not getting something exactly right.

Thanks! In your owner's manual which I linked to, there's nothing about changing the startup splash screen. If you find a way to get it done, would appreciate if you posted how. Long shot but it might work in mine too.
I got it! I knew it could be done after only going from laptop to car about 150 times!! I just about gave up, but kept at it. I had all kinds of info from the web, Kenwood, and a super nice member from here. I finally merged Kenwood's opening text and the member's formatted image and got it...

Glad you got it to work! I'm fairly accomplished with CS (Photoshop) so the design and formatting aren't a problem, however I'm also fairly good at google searching and have not been able to find any instructions how to put my JVC into splash-screen-customization mode, and I'm afraid a routine meant for Kenwoods might brick it.
So I guess I'm stuck with the JVC splash screen. Luckily it's only up for a few seconds, and I'm usually preoccupied with other things like stowing the windshield sunshade, buckling my seatbelt, putting my sunglasses on etc. At least I'm able to set a custom background.
If I ever replace the JVC I'll be sure to get one that allows splash screen customization, along with Apple car play. Wouldn't mind having Apple Maps gps on the radio screen.
