Where do you hear it coming from?

engine? Transmission? Tires?

We need more info as it could be a number of things.

Thanks!

How many miles? Rear diff can have that same noise and it would possibly resonate due to the torque tube.

Hmmmm...

automatic I assume based on "in park" could be lifter noise as these are prone to tapping but that's odd!

possibly lifter noise, but that usually goes away as the rpm's come up, in my experience. I would make a quick check of belts, pulleys, harmonic balancer, and exhaust fittings (possible exhaust leak?). Your friend said it is coming from the rear, but if it makes the noise while you are revving in park, it can't be back there, right? Have someone else rev it slowly while you look under the hood to see if you can locate the noise.

correct. There isn't any way for noise to be made in the rear unless it's an exhaust leak... I'm leaning towards lifter still, any chance you can record and post a quick video with someone slowly rev'ing the car?

I'm wondering if this could be the alternator going out..it's been acting crazy with voltage ranging from 14-11.5 and when I shut it down today it make a scrubbing type of a noise..

Easy way to check if your suspect the alternator, take the belt off and run it for a really brief moment and see if that ticking sound is still there. Cost nothing to verify and five minutes.

Well...now we have a front...rear...ticking...scrubbing sound?

Too many variables for me.

Checked the voltage at the alternator and it's good staying right at 14 volts.

I had a noise when I accelerated. Turned out the wheel buts were loose. Check to make sure they are torqued to 100 ft/lbs. Might be that simple.
