Fellas I'm looking for a break down of the difference between J56 and JL9 brakes. The only thing outlined is " heavy duty " for the J56 version. Are the rotors interchangeable? What's heavy duty?
Rotors are interchangeable providing you use the correct brake pad bracket. The larger J56 unit requires a larger pad bracket to meet the larger diameter rotor.
Reportedly no real stopping gains and some slightly longer fad retention.
OEM J56 comes drilled vs plain for the base JL9.
Basically a "looks" mod.
I did it because the wrong size brackets, for one axle, where given me when I had them powder coated.
Ran this way for a few years till it was discovered due to improper rotor wear. I do not put many miles on the car.
