Today I got the "low coolant level" notification. I went out and just bought regular Prestone extended life coolant and figured I'd research before dumping it in. If I've read correctly there is a certain type that I am supposed to use? Ive seen both positive and negative reviews about dexcool but I'm not sure what is best to use. Also I'm not sure what coolant is already in the car bc I bought it about a month ago and Ive read that mixing coolant is not a good idea. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm also a new 2007 owner, dexcool is what it takes should look orangeish when you look at it. I think the bad rap on dexcool was when it first came out in the mid 80's ??? Folks would mix it with the green stuff and end up with brown geewy mix and overheating issues. I also think the dexcool today is better than what was used 20 years ago. It should be changed out every 5 years or so.

The answer is also in the owners manual. If you don't have one you can download one online for free. And you really should have one.
Engine Coolant
50/50 mixture of clean, drinkable
water and use only DEX-COOL®
Coolant. See Engine Coolant on
page 6-36.
ZR1 Only:
Intercooler
System
50/50 mixture of clean, drinkable
water and use only DEX-COOL®
Coolant. See Engine Coolant on
page 6-36.
Although, I would try to avoid water from a municipal source as it has many minerals that could interact with the coolant in a negative way and since the cost of distilled water is insignificant, that is what I use.

I actually just looked the up a couple of hours ago and saw that it says dex cool. Going to pick some up now
After you top it off, make sure you find the leak, because there is a leak. Check around your water pump and hoses for signs of coolant. If you are not seeing spots on the ground yet, it is probably just starting, but there is a future problem that you will want to track down now.
Laugh all you want; go do that in YOUR new car that does not recommend it and see how fast they'll replace your burned engine. You want to experiment, go ahead. Don't be so cavalier with someone else's money, or car. OP may still have a warranty in place.
