Default Key FOB Problem?

This is an 08.

Can't operate door locks or ignition.

Can't open rear hatch with fob in my pocket.

Get the "no fobs detected" message.

Changed both fob batteries.

Car will start or go into accessory mode if fob is in glove box slot.

Can fobs lose their programming?

Is there any antenna or module I can check?

In ten years, I never used the remote lock or unlock on the fob, but

have opened the hatch with the fob in my pocket.

Please don't flame me for that.

We are old and the Bride and I just go for a ride or to a friends house

with no need to lock the car.

Thanks!

No, fobs do not lose their programming. But sometimes new fob batteries are bad - it happens. As cheap as they are, try to buy a new brand at a different place.

Be sure there's nothing in your pocket with the fob that's interfering with the signal. Also be sure there's nothing charging in the electric outlet in the car console.

Any new devices near the car that put out a strong electronic signal?

Last, but not least, be sure you've got a good strong battery in the car.

Car battery is a new NAPA Legend.

Key FOB batteries are new and read out as 3.24 volts on a digital

meter.

This problem was somewhat intermittent last week and permanent today.

Car does function with FOB in the glove box slot?

Thanks!

Might be the antennas that read the fob's signal.

But just for the heck of it, where is the fob after you get in the car, when you're trying to start the engine?

On the console with the cup holder closed or in my right side pants pocket.

Been the same for close to ten years?

Tried moving the FOB near the glove box with no luck.

Tried moving the FOB everywhere with no luck.

Thanks

Two questions.
1. Can you open both doors by manually pushing the unlock button?
2. When you put in the new battery, did you check the polarity and assure that the little contact tabs were in the right position? They have been known to slip out of place during a battery change.

Just a wild guess but, are you sure you put the batteries in the fobs right side up?

You may also want to clean the contacts in the fobs and gently pry them up to make a better connection.

When the fob is in the slot it, the same antennas are still being used. The difference is the fob is right next to the antenna in the slot and the fob will operate with a dead or no battery.

Yes the door locks work manually and I'm sure of the polarity.

Will look at the metal tabs again.

Thanks!

No need to check the tabs. If the fob buttons will lock and unlock the doors, then the fob is working.

I finally got them going after close to 8 hours of on and off playing

around with these FOB's. Bent a few tabs and went over them with

some fine emery.

Getting too old for these problems!

THANKS to all who replied! Have a GREAT week!

Some what unrelated, but is anyone with these fob issues, getting the chiming noise when they open the drives door with the ignition key " OUT" of the ignition switch?

I have had this problem since I purchased my C5 3 months ago. I also am having issues with programming my new after market tpms sensors.

I hate to be like the forum police but you might try posting this in the C5 section.
