One Word. Rediculous! Working on replacing the headlight lenses on my C6 Corvette. Getting them out was tough enough, but trying to pull them apart was absolutely the worst process I've every had the opportunity to complete. I tried a heat gun, heating the headlight assembly in the oven to 235 degrees twice. I think the only thing a heat gun does is to melt the plastic. Heat using either the heat gun or the oven had little if any effect on softening the adhesive. Obviously, they aren't meant to be separated. I think Chevrolet made them so you have to replace the entire headlight assembly (and buy the parts from them). I finally got the first one apart with a rediculous amount of forcing, prying, and some pretty salty language. even the bolts between the fender and the front bumper cover were rusted and I had to cut one of them off to allow them to separate. Does anyone know of a way to replace the stud I had to cut off? It was attached to the front bumper plastic.
You won't have to worry too much about the stud as long as the other 2 are secure. Many headlights can be left in place with only 2 screws holding them.
Particularly the C6 headlights can be left with 2 screws because the fender locks onto the top of the lenses and the bumper keeps the headlights from shifting forward. So you don't have to worry.
It also depends on your year, 2009+ it looks like have the black sealant and you'll want to remove ALL the black sealant prior to doing any work.
