Battery could be defective. How did you determine that the battery is 80% charged?
Battery checks good--i say 80% because the voltage is always 12.60-12.70 volts-Before i put the charger on-its pretty much charged up--im guessing it goes into blinking green because deltran says after 80 it goes into blinking gree--than after about 45 min it goes solid green--want to make sure unit is working the way it should-

I use the Junior and it almost never goes directly to green. The tender actually charges the battery a little more than the alternator does, so there's roughly a fifteen minute or half-hour period of red first. Also, measuring voltage is not an accurate way of testing battery charge - you really need a load test for that.

Had my optima redtop load tested yesterday--its a good battery
got an e/mail from deltran-Manufacturer.-yes its normal and the reason it doesnt stay solid red and goes right away into blinking green is--Battery is 80+% charged--BTW Optima Redtop 3 yers old and as good as new--
My ctek charger has a different charging mode for the AGM batteries. I have been told the ctek varies the charging voltage high and low to fully charge battery. Don't know if deltran does that. Bill
OK, but I'm telling you that my Tender Junior doesn't blink and almost never goes directly to green. It's over 10 years old so maybe they've changed. Or I've got a freak.

In 2014 they changed the junmior--much lighter and smaller--high efficency--changed the chip you have the old junior--BTW even your older jr. it should blink when 80% charged-than go into solid green--better check it out-

I have a 10-15 year-old Jr. on my Vette and every time when I come home and snap it up it blinks green for some time (5-10 mins?) before going to solid green.
I always hook it up when the car is home. Battery is over three years old, car sits in an unheated barn for 5 months each winter, had it load tested this summer and it's still in fine shape. So the tender is working correctly.

Yes the reason it goes right into green blink is because its at 80%+ charged when you hook the charger up--working like it should- If you let the car sit and the battery go down to like 60-75%--the red light would come on and be steady until it has the 80% charged up--than the green blink would come on--Its a great charger--car batterys dont need anything more unless your in a hurry and need a quick charge
