Before I screw up.............
The clear film on the nose and hood of my car has black spots from something and I can't get them off. I want to remove the film from the hood, but am not sure of the PROPER way to do it so as not to damage my paint. Is using a hair dryer to loosen the glue a good idea? What do you guys suggest for this removal? Thanks!

Yes use a hair dryer. Even if you just pull it off it won't hurt your paint. It will leave the adhesive on the paint making a bigger job to remove the adhesive than to remove the film the correct way.

I took it off the front of my C5. I used a heat gun CAREFULLY. Too much heat and the plastic melts, too little and it's brittle. It only took a few seconds learning and then I was able to pull off big sections. Cleaned up with odorless mineral spirits (no, it did not damage the 14 year old paint). I have seen it done with steam so if your wife has a steam grout cleaner sneak it out to the garage for a try.

I would not use heat...just peel it off. If any of the glue remains, spray some WD40 on a clean rag and wipe it off. I took the clear bra off the front of my car a few months ago. Took some time...about 3 hours. Some pieces come off in pretty big pieces, some very small. No paint peeled at all. Just take your time. Some good music, a few cold drinks and you will be fine.
After using WD40, a good wiping off with detailer spray and all is good.

Steam - The only way to get it off with no glue residue left behind. Use a simple wall paper steamer from Home Depot.
This has been posted over and over. You can find it on a search. The pros who put these on and take them off use steam.
