Default Shift to reverse issue

I know there are a lot of threads on this already, but I need some help.

Car is a 2005 Z51 full bolt ons with 49k miles. New to me 4 days ago, so idk how long this has been going on.

When I go to shut down the car whether I'm in reverse or in neutral and shift to reverse after, it still says "shift to reverse". I can get the car to shut off by pulling the shifter out of reverse SLOWLY. When I'm about halfway out of gear, it will hit a very small "sweet spot" and turn off. This corresponds to when my reverse lights come on. Meaning my reverse lights are not on when in reverse, only when the shifter is halfway in reverse and hitting that "sweet spot".

My questions is do y'all think it is the reverse light switch(es) or something with the transmission/shift linkage? And how would I go about determining what it is and how to fix it? Thanks for the help.

Possibly a bad switch. On the '05 there are two switches on the passenger side of the transmission toward the front. They both do the same thing, one is for back up lights the other for the BCM, and I think they might even be the same part but not sure. It's relatively easy to just replace both and see if that solves your issue.

I have the same problem with my 2005 c6. I ordered a new switch and went underneath my car to replace the switch but I cannot find the location of the switch. Am I looking in the wrong place as I saw that it was located on the passenger side of the transmission. Do I have to read move any plates or covers to expose the switches? If someone would have a diagram The transmission that would be helpful.

Yep, on the passenger side of the trans. Two switches, one above the other. Nothing to remove to get to them. Used a 22 mm deep well socket. I think these switches are wired parallel so I am not sure how you would tell which one is bad. Replace both. Found them on Amazon for half the price the dealer wanted.
