Fall Colors anyone?
At any rate, if you just want to get away . . .
Peak color depends on where you are.
In the Adirondacks of northern NYS, the largest park in the lower 48, the High Peaks area is at full color around mid to late September. It's as wild as you want to get, although there are many small towns, motels, cabins, etc. throughout the rest of the park.
Henderson Lake, in the High Peaks:

Anywhere in the Finger Lakes (where I live) is good, but the color generally peaks out later, by mid-October. Plenty of wineries around many of the lakes, falls, overlooks, etc.
Check out Taughannock Falls State Park, near the south end of Cayuga Lake. Pik:

And of course Watkins Glen is the next lake over. Aside from the racecourse, the Glen itself is beautiful.
And "The Grand Canyon of the East," Letchworth State Park, two pix:

Aside from a freak occurrence, not much chance of snow around here for a few weeks yet, although there could be if you're in the Adirondacks.
There are a zillion places to visit in New England also, but I don't live there so can't give you any specific places.
