I’m replacing my 2006 A6 shifter cable bushings before they fail. Got the shifter loose from the cable. How do you remove a good original bushing from the cable?
I searched & couldn’t find a thread on removal, most say the pieces fall out, my bushing is in there tight.
Should I leave it as is? The car has 41000 miles on the odometer.
I have an 08 with 56000 on it still good bushings, just checked them last week. I ordered new onesi also , but have decided to hold off on replacing them. I have seen video on drilling them out if they are still good, which looks like the easiest way IMO. Good luck with it
Think I will put it back together & keep the parts in the car.
Whats the trick to getting the exhaust pipe out of the way? I have a new bushing on the way but honestly, I see no way to replace it without moving the exhaust pipe.

Take the center console out and do it from inside the car.
All great tips but the bushing I am replacing is the one mounted to the side of the transmission and not in the console. The actual fix is easy but the exhaust pipe is smack dab in the way. If I can remove it along with the muffler, access to the bushing will be a walk in the park. I tried earlier today loosening the clamp on the exhaust but it wouldn't budge and with today being a Sunday and no dealers open, I didn't want to risk being stranded again.
