Default Convertible top issue

My automatic top catches on the glass when raising or lowering - one only and it's been a while since I tried it so sorry I forget which one - and makes a loud noise which startles passengers coupled with future damage potential. Looking at it I'm wondering if there is an adjustment I'm just not seeing. BTW, it's not catching on the cloth or anywhere else.

Thanks much in advance for any replies !

In the meantime until you do any work on the straps, just reach back with your right hand while holding the button with your left and pull the bottom of the glass forward toward you and it will miss hitting the glass. I do this and have put off trying the fix.

There's a couple of YouTube Videos on this. Think the one with the yellow C6 is good. I was able to drill out rivets up over the window and adjust the straps there...mines a 2006 and they changed the strap location in the front so it doesn't work on all years. Some have to do it at the back of the top. Put a small nut and bolt in where the rivet was. Small washer on the strap side. Nut with the plastic where the threads are to hold it better.

I tried shortening the existing elastic strap and it only resulted in it stretching out more. I ended up replacing the strap with a much sturdier one. I posted photos in the thread below.

We have this same issue with the red car, but have been too lazy to do anything about it. We simply reach back and pull the glass slightly towards us to keep it from bumping.

We trudge on.

I had the same problem with shortening the straps and them stretching out again shortly after. The process of shortening the straps at the point that they attached to the bottom of the window was also hell and something I don't want to try again. I exhausted my vocabulary of cuss words the day I tried the fix. In the time being I hold the window out of the way by hand.

Yup, looks like a lot of us do. It's just part of the ritual of putting the top down.

I do the same. It has become automatic. I just reach back an pull it. Very easy.

Mine just knocks it so I just guide the top with my hand and works well. Never had problems with my older corvette mechanical tops
