Need some help. im trying to ship my custom built hood. everyone interested is no local. the shipping quotes im getting are outrages and more than the cost of the hood. last one was $1650. thats insane. Ive heard greyhound but the hood is just over the size the take. Most LTL companies state without a business accoung, its crazy expensive.
currently the hood is packaged as it was shipped to me(cost me $150 because it was from a business).
secured on a pallet
68x55x14
estimated 150lbs because of the pallet weight.

any advice appreciated.
Greyhound I believe is the cheapest.Fedex Freight usually reasonable for heavy items
FL to IL. im trying uship now. odd thing, theough Uship they quoted me 360-450 dollars for shippimg companies. those were the same that i called directing wanting 4x as much
My dad retired from Greyhound driving busses......and as someone who has spent alot of time around busses, the stations and seen how packages/freight is handled going onto/off of the bus baggage bays....AINT NO WAY IN HELL that I'd ship a custom fiberglass hood on the bus. Fed Ex or Road Way would probably be the cheapest way to do it.
Thanks for all the advice. sent a request to Fastenal to see what they offer. Greyhound is never my go to but some buyers demand the cheapest and accept liabilty. my best quote so far is actually from the U-Ship bidding process.
Having it on a pallet certainly isn't helping the cost. If you don't feel confident boxing it, maybe see what a ups store or similar would charge to package it? If they can take care of $5000 china sets I'm sure they can box a hood.
greyhound's size limit wont allow C6 hoods to be shipped, have you actually shipped with them?
UPS freight and Fed Ex freight wanted over $1000
shipped transmission that weighed 195lb in crate both ways from Niagara Falls,NY to Anderson,Indiana and it was dirt cheap for shipping with FedEx Freight
