2005 Incorrect Clock Spring?
I started the debug process by starting to take off the air bag and when I did so I found that there was third wire from the clock spring that was sitting unplugged. I attempted to plug it in to the steering wheel but the male fitting from the clock spring would not fit. Did the previous owner put a different clock spring on? Is the 2006+ clock spring different and I just need to buy the 2005 clock spring?
I guess another important question to this would be is this third connector (the one not to the air bag) responsible for the horn?
Thanks for any help!!

I just changed my 05 to a 2011 GS wheel and used the latest model of the clock spring.
Here's what I know about your problem.
There should be a 4 pin black connector coming from the clock spring and connecting under a harness under the dash. Mine had only two wires connected gray and yellow. One is the ground (?) the other is the horn signal connection.
- If it is not connected - you should have your problem
- If it is connected backwards - the horn will work, but occasionally the one of the automatic beeps will set off the VATS and it will be nearly impossible to turn off. (the 2 wires reversed)
- If it is wired correctly (the 2 wires) it will work.
Newer cars have additional wires (at least from what I understand) besides the horn to support the steering wheel buttons.
OK, so that is connected correctly.
The next area is inside the steering wheel. Unfortunately you have to remove the airbag. Disconnect the battery, WAIT AT LEAST 30 MINUTES before doing this.
- Insert a flat ended rod or hex key into the 4 holes of the steering wheel and release the air bag mounting clips. (This takes a minute tops, but the first time it will be a couple of hours before you get the feel of it.) (If you have 3 spoke wheel you'll have 2 holes)
- Remove the air bag and you should see that how the horn works -- just a simple metal to metal contact when you push on the air bag.
- You should also be able to see the connection of the steering wheel horn to the clock spring to make sure it is connected.
I didn't try it, but it seems obvious that if you connect the two horn wires together at the harness, under the airbag, or connect the contacts together the horn will beep.
My clock 05 clock spring says 26092835 which I assume is the part number.
I did not include the details or pictures but those can be found elsewhere on this forum.
Good luck! Hope this helps.
The previous owner may have changed the wheel and not the Clock spring or Changed both but when he went to sell it put the original 2005 wheel back but not the original clock spring.
By what you say , it seems like you either have a mismatched clockspring/wheel combo , since the 2 plugs don't mate together.
