I've been driving a stick for 36 years and only missed a shift once when going 4-5 and pushed it past the reverse lockout and started grinding something in my '95 Z28. Only took once to learn never to do that again.
And, for the record, I'm not going as fast as I can through all the gears every day at every stop light. I drive a stick because it's more fun than an auto and not because it's faster.
So I'm not a loser. Just someone who enjoys driving a manual.
