My C6 only has one key and remote with my recent purchase. Do you recommend I should have a second set as a backup? If so, need I just go to a local GM dealership to purchase one and have it programmed? Thanks
I would and I do have 2 keys -- when we go on a road trip GF has the 2nd one in her purse - it is wrapped in tin foil so hers s not the one setting the corvette when we get in.. but she unwraps it if she needs to get in and 'i am not there.

Sounds good Snowboarder and thank you for your time. My wife insists that she and I have a backup key and remote. Good tip about the foil if we both have one on us. Best, C
Might even find one in the C6 Parts for Sale section of the forum.
And program it yourself. Dealer will hit you up for $100 to $200 to provide the fob and program it.
Great, will look here also. My wife spent about that for an additional second remote for her van she bought recently. Now that I have the Corvette, I am a second driver on her insurance policy on the Honda van. I don't take my Corvette to work often or as a daily driver. Thanks for your time. My best, Chris
The cheapest I’ve found the key fob is at gm parts direct. You’ll need to buy the fob and the key. I think it’s $109 for the fob & $8 for the key, somewhere around there. My GS only came with one key, so I need to buy a second as well.

We got our Corvette with 1 key and 2 number 2 fobs. Only one fob worked with the preset buttons on the door and gave access to the DIC since at one time the original number 1 fob was lost and another #2 was purchased and installed with the short program so the car saw it as fob #3.
I found a brand new in package #1 fob on ebay for $70 and had the GM dealer cut me a couple of spare keys from the original for $12 each. We each have a key on our key chains and a spare.
I ran the long program which erased the lost #1 fob and programmed #1 #2 and the most worn fob for #3. My #3 fob is wrapped in foil and hidden in the car so in a worst case scenario of a lost fob I can get into the car with the key, retrieve #3 fob and drive the car.

Thanks a lot Icecap for your reply. I believe you are correct and I will look again what you tell. Should be easy to do and not too pricey. No problem. Grateful and thanks. Chris

You didn't state whether you had an 05-07 or 08-13 but here are 2 examples from eBay.
Here is a gift idea for your sig other:
Instead of wrapping the fob in foil buy a 'scan safe' credit card wallet. I saw them at Ace Hardware yesterday for about $10.
You're welcome...

Yes, I have a 2007. I appreciate the links here, helpful and thanks for your time. On it! Best regards, Chris
I just got a fob from eBay for my 07 , around $65 and programmed it myself, I had no key so I had to go to the dealer to get a key made off my VIN, $35 for that but then took that key to Walmart and had 5 made for about $2 each. Have a key on each fob, one under the car on a magnetic holder, one at work, and a spare at home.
