Will a gm charger for corvettes that plug into a power port in the rear of the vette work on a 2005 plugging it into the cigarette lighter to keep the battery charge??
I'm not really sure if the 2005 cigarette lighter port is powered all the time. Plug it in and see if it charges. If not, go to Wally World and buy a charger/maintainer and hook it up to the battery and plug it in, done.

Like LMB says if your lighter or plug in the center console is on all the time it should work. I have a 2006 and it works fine. Plug something 12V into it when the car is not on to find out....Got a Black & Decker on Amazon about $25 bucks. It has the lighter plug, clips to batter, and also a nice hard wire to battery(tender) with a little disconnect plug..Always pays to check any charger(tender) and battery for overheating when you leave it on for a long time IMO...after many years of using chargers they can wear out or have glitches too...
You want to ensure that you use a battery TENDER (smart battery charger), not a just a battery charger. I have been using a C-TEK since 2008, and highly recommend it:
I am still on my original '08 battery. I also us my C-TEK on my other vehicles, and I seem to get longer overall battery life by C-TEKing them prior to starting when the vehicles have been sitting around for a while.
GM offers the C-TEK as an option on the C7's. You can't go wrong with a C-TEK. There are others that may be as good - do your research.
I have no affiliation with C-TEK - just 9 years of experience on 4 different vehicles.
I thought I must have missed something after reading the original post! I never found any power port in the "rear" of any Vette, but then it made me wonder. Glad to know I'm not ready for the nursing home yet.

I have four maintainers here: The Ctek that came with the GS, a 14-YO Deltran BT+ that I use on the truck, a Deltran BT Jr. I was using on the Harley (sold recently), and a Deltran BT Solar that I use on the mower that's stored in a shed with no AC power. The CTek has been fine except for its connector, which has given me trouble since the get-go. With local car dealers being clueless about a warranty claim, I called Ctek and they replaced the connector about a year ago, but it's acting up again. Good service from CTek on that repair, BTW. I still use the Ctek on the C7 but sometimes find it disconnected unexpectedly. That usually requires a simple twist of the connector or reinsertion and I'm resigned to live with it, as it doesn't fail often. I think the problem involves the two plastic clips that secure the connector when inserted, as they break off easily and make the connection loose. Both clips on mine are broken again and I'm not rough on it at all, I don't think.
I used the old BT+ on my 2015 with a $10 lighter adapter purchased on Ebay and never had any trouble with it in the two years I owned the car. Had my current GS not had the CTek included in the new-car deal I would still be using the BT+ arrangement, swapping it every day or two between vehicles like did with a C2, C6, C7, Harley, and several other vehicles over the years. If I didn't have any maintainer and wanted a new one I would buy a BT+ with adapter.
Hi.
My CTEK 3300 gave me the same problem - that plastic connector is a weak spot. My solution, cut it out and solder/heat shrink the wires. Problem gone.
Hope this helps,
M....
I've had bad luck with the CTEK. Had the power briefly go out during a summer storm. When the power came back, the chargers on my Harley and my charger, C5 were fried. The ECBM on the Corvette was also fried. CTEK replaced them but I threw them out. Got a Sears charger. It tells you the % of charge.

I'm hardly an electrical genius, but it seems the problem was probably a voltage spike from the storm, not a fault of the tender itself.
Nothing else in the house was affected except the chargers which was supposed to protect the vehicles they were connected to. I have not had any problems with the Sears trickle chargers during similar weather conditions.

Maybe someone (Dano?) with more knowledge than me can straighten this out. But:
- I didn't know ANY chargers had voltage spike protection.
- "Similar" weather conditions: The odds of getting a spike through the lines during an electrical storm are tiny. I've never had one, as far as I know.
I'd like to get this cleared up, cuz my Vette is always on the tender and having the electricals getting zapped sounds like a nightmare I don't need. TBH, I've never even thought about this being a possibility before.
